General 2023 Warriors Draw

It would have been good to get more games in NZ to make up for the last few years. The World Cup in Australia booking out exclusive access to the stadiums would have been a perfect opportunity for more games here and the NRL management sell it as a thank you.

Not surprised that clubs are worried about their own situations.

We should use it as motivation and build up an everyone is against us attitude like some of the other clubs do. Or at least the coaching staff should keep it in their back pocket to bring up later in the season.

I don’t mind our draw - round 1 aside, however just a scheduling problem. Byes are nicely timed, we play the Broncos during origin, Panthers & Storm only once, Dolphins twice and the read through from last seasons placings is always a bit misleading - as an example the Sea Eagles should be much improved with a fit Turbo & we only play them once.

Could be a lot worse. I’m feeling confident - 14th place here we come!!

Flights and accommodation booked for Wellington and accommodation for Napier. Hamilton can be a day trip.
If you are looking at going to Napier get in quick for accommodation, there is not much there.

Get a load of this from the NRLs article on the ‘23 draw.. what “commitment”??

BB6C9606 9391 4CE6 8DD5 02F06CA657C2

Are we supposed to be kissing the feet of the NRL for giving New Zealand an All Stars game?? It should be played here every second year as is.

I’m not breaking new ground here either, but having the single New Zealand team play their ANZAC Day game in Australia year in and year out is a f’ joke.

Saying the NRL is committed to reinvigorating league in NZ is like saying the Warriors are committed on defence 🙄

100% agree brother. It's a disgrace. The All Stars match should already have been on a rotation between Aus and NZ, as is the case with the ANZAC Day fixture. Sucks to say but the NRL really couldn't give less of a fuck about the Warriors or growing the NZ game, and they don't even try to hide it (eg Abdo literally laughing on TV at the idea of the Warriors having extra home games next season).

As a Wellingtonian I am stoked to get another Warriors game down here, they always do well crowd-wise (except for maybe that Dragons shellacking where we lost 29-0 or whatever in sideways torrential rain). I do feel a bit bad for the Auckland home fans that it's round 1, but your pain is my gain, sorry ;P

Brisbane in Napier is also tempting, Broncos are one of the teams I still haven't watched in person yet (along with Roosters, Sharks, Cowboys, Eels & now Dolphins left to tick off).

I love seeing Warriors games in different grounds too.

So driving up to Napier for a game against an oponent I haven't seen yet will be great... well depends how the league is of course. I really enjoyed driving up to New Plymouth for the Raiders game untill the game happened and we got fucking pumped.

Honestly I don't think our draw is too bad. Only 1 game against some of the top 8 teams for 2022 and with a bunch of those games early in the season with changes to the squads I don't think these games will be as difficult as they would have been later in the season when teams ramp up for finals. While I think our middle pack could use some improvement I think our upgrades on 2nd row could make up for this a bit. Would much rather Niukore/Barnett/Walker over Aitken/Murchie/Pene and can see them doing some of the hard yards at times to take pressure of Addin Fonua-Blake, Harris & possibly Ben Murdoch-Masila/Tevaga?
