General 2023 NZ Warriors Preseason

Or is that his "Cameron, the only reason your phone's running hot is 'cause you dropped it in your coffee, ya goose!" look?

Any more details about training? Have the Piha sand dunes been treaded yet? If not, is that still a plan? Are they building up players mental resolve to go through the shit moments and survive by showing them their 2022 performances and the players are strung up like:
Warriors Horror

We need to know so we can bitch about pre-season sucking. This quiet positivity plays with a man's mind. It's like some weird, alternate reality that I don't understand.

Interesting interview with Shaun Johnson here providing real insight into how pre-season training is going so far, what makes it different from past pre-seasons, and who the standout performers are amongst the new crew (spoiler: Mitch Barnett). He gives big wraps to Webby and how he's brought a bunch of new ideas and approaches to the table. The big focus is on improving the individual player, and that's being done in a very detailed and systematic way. Also, keeping things enjoyable for the squad ... at least as enjoyable as pre-season can possibly be. :p

Shaun Johnson… the PR expert.

Same marketing speak we hear every year but it gets me every time!

I’m getting excited for next year already!

Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson believes there are no more excuses for the club ahead of their first season since returning home after the pandemic.

The Warriors have had plenty of reasons for their inconsistency after being displaced to Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Johnson believes the time for excuses is over.

“It’s almost like a re-set for the club and there’s not really any other club that is able to do that right now, so we’ve really tried to attack the start of the pre-season,” Johnson told SENZ radio.

“I suppose you could look at it like the club has had many excuses into why things haven’t gone right the last few years; the position they’ve been put in, the travel, the uncertainty, everything that’s been spoken about so much.

“Well for us now, it was about sort of just parking that and drawing a line in the sand because there isn’t any excuse of why we shouldn’t do well next year.”

Johnson is entering the final year of his deal with the club and the second since returning from the Sharks and is excited to be in familiar surroundings as the Warriors plot a resurgence under new coach Andrew Webster.

“Being back at pre-season, being back at the club and being home...it just feels like a chance at a fresh start,” Johnson said.

“We’ve got everything we need...we’re all happy, we’re back where we belong. We’re back where we want to be.”

The Warriors have recruited well with former Raiders fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Broncos counterpart Te Maire Martin bolstering the spine around Johnson.

Webster told NRL.com that Nicoll-Klokstad will get first crack at the fullback role, with Martin likely to play alongside Johnson in the halves.

“Charnze, it’s his spot to lose,” Webster told NRL.com.

“Someone is going to have to take it off him or Charnze is going to have to play poorly, and I don’t see that happening. Charnze was definitely signed to be our No.1.”

Webster also revealed skipper Tohu Harris will be used in the lock role after switching from the back row to prop at times last season.

“I think it’s the best use of Tohu Harris, I think you have got to have his hands on the ball as often as possible,” Webster said.

“He can do both, he can look like he’s about to pass and then run or look like he’s about to run and then pass.”

I've been thinking about a particular player and their development. Ed Kosi has developed slowly over the last 2 years, with yet another pre season under his belt. He's only going to get bigger, stronger and he already has pretty decent pace. What if he becomes a Francis Meli type in 2023? I don't know if many noticed his demeanor over the last month of footy, but his confidence was building, he looked to be really loving it out there. If he builds on that form, knuckles down don't be surprised if he starts round 1. I still remember the camera's showing him in tears after his first game, now some will say this and that about the kid. But at the very least he cares about performing and playing for the Wahs. He's only 23, Dude could be a Star. Wouldn't that be a mean story.

Last year Shaun was saying how good it was that browny was focusing on the basics 😂

But it does sound good that they want to build up the players, other than your Montoya’s who are just all effort we have a bad case of guys who just go backwards for us. Even if they start out promising.
