“It’s not about the wage we’re getting. It’s about setting up funds for past players, looking after our younger boys, welfare, some of our tertiary education stuff is not where we want it to be" ~ Kurt Capewell

Don't know but I remember an NHL lockoutHas there ever been a strike/ lockout in Nz/ Australia pro sport?
2 years after the game almost went bust; after a huge proposed player pay increase offered; while the countries are suffering a cost of living crisis.
Greed.
If the players are stupid enough to push for it, the public will turn against them viciously when the media gets into them.
Management will not bend on a retirement fund, And will be prepared to lose half the season rather than agree. My opinion only.“It’s not about the wage we’re getting. This is the management that nearly ran the game into the ground. They basically said they had to run during COVID or they would go under. We should side with them over players wanting retired players to be looked after getting tertiary education. Wow what a world we live in.Don't know but I remember an NHL lockout
The plsyers had enough money in the bank to last 3 months without pay,
An 82 game season cut down to approv 40 games.
The union will have a stipend ready to pay the players.
Management knows the public will side against the players. The next decision both sides need to make is which makes the both look the best. If the NRL are considering a lock out then a player strike is even better for their optics,
The next step in the process is for lies about the other side to be circulated,
The average employee will earn about $2.5m over the average 45 year working life. A $300k NRL player will earn that much in a 8 year career. Many will earn significantly more. They have the opportunity to invest the big up front lump sum for the next 33 years. Plus get a second career.I don't know what to think about this, I have to work till I'm 70 to retire and I'm not on 500 0r 600 thousand to play a game I love, would someone tell tthemto bank some if it or invest it for once your finished playing.
Just my thoughts.
Maybe it’s widely known over in Aussie that vlandys is a slimy prick because a lot of the support I’m seeing is for the players. Fans were happy that he kept the comp afloat at the time but there doesn’t seem to be that support they enjoyed in that period, with many labelling the nrl as arrogant. Think they would be wise to join negotiations, it’s either going to be the nrl or the players who are going to derail the start of the season. Whichever won’t be looked at fondly by the fans if it’s delayed at all.The average employee will earn about $2.5m over the average 45 year working life. They will say that many only play a few years and don’t make lots of money… well then you haven’t had a proper professional career so you need to get another job.
They will say many have broken bodies… so have a lot of us that had amateur sporting careers. We still have to go out and work.
There are a very few that have significant physically debilitating injuries from the sport. There are many builders; forestry workers and farmers that have physically wrecked their bodies as well and in the extreme cases ACC, benefits and insurances looks after them.
I think it’s a privilege to play the sport they love that opens up many doors and opportunities post career. It’s an opportunity most of us could only dream of.
Noel Cleal former player slammed the players as greedy todayKennedy Cherrington has been tweeting about how frustrating this is for the NRLW players who do not have health insurance covered by the NRL and still don't have contracts or a timeframe for the next NRLW season.
"No private health insurance = no play. We must cover ourselves as athletes. That’s the reality of being an NRLW player at the moment. Frustrating that 22 DAYS OUT from the game we are still stressing over this rather than focusing on the celebration of our 2 cultures"
So basically if any NRLW players get seriously injured in rep games like Indigenous vs Maori or HNWP they're fucked.
Saw this on a league site. Really sounds like the nrl is being unreasonable and the male players are in support of their female counterparts among some other things. As I said earlier, the majority of support I’m seeing is for the players.
The media will decide this with which angle they promote to the general public. The public pressure and narrative of which side is the unreasonable bad guy will force movement.Noel Cleal former player slammed the players as greedy today
What’s the background here? The men not signing has impacted the woman as much as the NRL.Kennedy Cherrington has been tweeting about how frustrating this is for the NRLW players who do not have health insurance covered by the NRL and still don't have contracts or a timeframe for the next NRLW season.

RLPA has become a union. Good on them, they are in a unique situation in their chosen sport where their careers can be finished in an instant. They aren’t paid a pittance in relation to American and European sportsman, though their countries are on a far larger scale.Usman Khawaja from the Australian Cricket players association union has backed the RLPA. The significance of this is that the media are now reporting these stories of which celebrity is backing which side and this juncture is a new milestone in the process.
