Recruitment 2023/2024 Warriors Recruitment DISCUSSION

Seaforth was a Tigers development player in 2019. Webster was on the Tigers coaching staff.
Starting to look like a player our coach wanted has used our approach as an advertisement to all Sydney clubs. Because he doesn't want to leave there.
When I read about it the immediate thought was that it seemed unusual that we'd be interested in Seyfarth, but with that development link you mention with Webster it's making sense now. Webster obviously liked what he saw with his work ethic at the time and must rate him. For Seyfarth's first grade experience he played a handful of games in the shortened 2020 season that had no reserve grade and got a serious injury in 2021 which put him out for much of the season. He played most games for the Tigers last year so it was really his first solid run and it will be interesting to see how he kicks on this season now knowing it's not going to be for us.

With it being a 3 year offer for a player that is on the fringes it goes to show how much of an uphill battle it is to get Australian players to move to NZ, particularly with family connections. Cappy has a big job ahead of him.

Yep, which is probably why itll be some short term pain until the Warriors set up a system where they dont need to lure big name Aussies and instead we start producing and developing big name kiwis

The way I see it is Webster has had 3 months to cast his eye over the Warriors. Evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. He's seen a hole in our team that needs plugging and Seyfarth was the right plug for the right hole. People saying Seyfarth is a boring one dimensional tacklebot are missing the bigger picture that Webster is inadvertently showing us. I might be getting a little imaginative here but what that tells me is that we have plenty of strike power but not enough down in the trenches, crawling through shit, do or die players that get the job done where it really matters, which I was always maintain is defence...

Agree with that but all that puzzles me with the interest in Seyfarth is that the club were vocal in talking of their pursuit of a middle forward. Being Seyfarth plays at second row or lock, does that mean we’re struggling to get a middle and Barnett takes that role since Seyfarth can cover his positions?

Lock is a middle though. Maybe they're looking at Harris or Barnett to prop with Seyfarth to lock. Multiple ways it could work.

Also fits in well with the Cleary trend of a lock eg Warriors=Mannering, Panthers=Yeo that Webster is steeped in..

That’s what I meant when I said Seyfarth can cover Barnett’s positions at second row or lock. He doesn’t cover prop though, which Barnett does and where we are glaringly thin. Seyfarth would have to be looked at as a second rower considering the possibilities we have to cover the lock role. Maybe we see somebody like Vasuvulagi can fill that void? and I know we have Addin Fonua-Blake to come in but watching Otoikamamu and considering they also have the likes of Klemmer to come in for them shows me we need another prop rather than second rower unless the scenario you say is on the cards, which Webster has said it’s not in interviews. Perhaps there are many possibilities to how positions will be filled, but the value of the player being pursued ticking all the right boxes is what’s viewed as most important to the club?

Perhaps that’s the thinking and Harris, Barnett cover prop and second row between them in 2024 but there’s also Jazz who’s signed for 2024 and Walker who often fills the role off the bench. I think Harris will fill the role you’re saying in your post because of his ball playing ability, I guess with his versatility he gives us options.

Waipiro

Nice to see guys on train and trial actually crack the 30 as we had a heap last year that never got a look in.
And really good to see them signing him prior to that trial performance.....obvious confindence in his talent/ability.

Webster said something along the lines of playing a style of footy that suits the squad..

It will be interesting and enjoyable to watch.

With Tuaupiki taking one of the remaining spots to take us to 27, would a forward be the other player we need to get us to 28 squad members? Would another player have been announced if they impressed in the trial or are we looking outside?

So am I right in thinking we'll need to add one more player prior to 1st March to meet the minimum player requirement for the NRL roster criteria in 2023?

Good luck to Tuaupiki btw, big call to down tools and come over to a new country to try to establish himself as an Nrl player.

My understanding is that Mt Wellington said 29 by March 1
