Recruitment 2023/2024 Warriors Recruitment DISCUSSION

Weird situation, only 24 and heading off to the super league for a 1 year deal.
Guessing he knows he’s not going to get much exposure and will be in Reggie’s apart from injuries. Off to super league and the 1 year suggests he’s hoping for interest after he shows what he can do.

He bounced between a couple of Teams and has not bedded down a spot. I recall talk of him being a turn off with some of the feedback etc he’d given others? Maybe he’s another one that just isn’t conducive to a Team environment after a period of time and not getting what he wants.

Apparently the dolphins have told Brown to name his price and they will start negotiating at $1m a season minimum. This is the problem with expansion it inflates the market. If they settle on say $1.2 -$1.4m what doesn’t that make Cleary worth? I’d say he’d have to be $2m

Brown is good 6 and will get better but I don’t anything in his game that shows he could transition in to top notch 7. He really struggled when Moses was out. Good luck to him, grab the bag while you can. I’d love him at the warriors but I think $800k is his worth.

Warriors need to offer the book at him, what are we gonna do come 2024 with inexperienced volkman and Martin in the halfs?

Hopefully coming home is an offer that holds something to him, if it’s money we won’t win.

Brown isn't a million dollar half yet, let alone a $1.2 million dollar man. Forget about him lads, can't see him coming here.

He hasn't shown a kicking game to be a good 7. He's a great 6, but not a guy you can chuck the keys too and say lead the team. I wouldn't want the Warriors to gamble the entire cap on potential.

I mean, 1 Million would be the absolute max I would be willing/we should offer for Brown- A lot depends on how the salary cap ends up looking though I guess.

I may be missing people, or have people out of position, but this is how I see the top 3 available players at each position looking like..

FB: L Mitchell, S Crichton, D Laurie
WG: B To'o, D Tupou, D Young
CT: P Hiku, W Penisini, S Talakai
FE: D Brown, C Walker, A Douehei
HB: M Moses, S Walker, K Flanagan
PR: N Asofa-Solomona, T Flegler, S Leniu
HK: D Cook, S Luke, J Granville
SR: J Nanai, D Fifita, L Martin
LK: V Radley, T Sims, N Brown
14: K Mann, C Watson, T Peachy

We can probably disregard Second Row, Lock, and Utility all together given our stock there, and there is no chance for us at 90-95% of the remaining players in there.

Ironically, in terms of need and how realistic it is for us to get them, Hiku is probably at the top of the list

Outside of the people on that list, there isn't a whole lot else going on out there to throw money at, so since you have to spend the money one way or another, and we don't have many guys we need to/should re-sign, if we have the cap space we could try a David Fifita-esque deal, throwing him a shit load on a short term deal just to get him through the door? Mind you, that hasn't worked out so well for the Titans, or David Fifita (except for his wallet of course)

*Note: I don't think a "David Fifita approach" for Brown would be smart at all, just throwing an idea out there.

So Ben Peni has our final spot in the top 30?

That's a pretty big decision isn't it? Considering we have the Kepus and Ale in our prop rotation, I would have thought the last thing we would look at is another inexperienced prop.

Surely this means that Webbys keen to use the Kepu boys a decent amount this season?
nah he's in SG ball squad, will be lucky to get a handful of NSW cup games.

I actually think Douehei is almost on par with brown as a 6. He’s just been in a shit team and had a horrid injury run. If he was at the Eels for the last few years playing outside Moses he would be just as good.

I would be going after Moses, Sam Walker or Doueihi before Brown.

Im confident in Te Maire Martin to be our 6 going forward. We need a halfback who has a good kicking game before we go and get another running half. Unfortunately, theyre hard to come by these days. Doueihi is better than Brown in my opinion.

Dolphins set to launch $1 million rad for Dylan Brown

Despite the veteran coach's interest, Brown's management has confirmed the 22 year-old is happy at Parramatta, but won't dismiss rival offers without considering them.

“There is no doubt he is happy at Parramatta,” his manager Chris Orr told The Daily Telegraph.

“Dylan has a great relationship with everyone at the club and it would take a massive deal to pull him out of the club.

“If any other clubs, including the Warriors, Dolphins or Titans, are interested and wishing to put their position forward to Dylan, then at that time we will sit down and consider all options.”
We were the first team his manager listed off- Dylan Brown to the Warriors confirmed ;)

I think Brown is a fair whack more talented that Doueihi is, but agree that the Eels probably would have done just as well if they had him instead of Brown.

I know this isn't what you were suggesting at all but Doueihi wouldn't come here, nor do I think we would consider making a play for him. I would imagine the thinking of getting Dylan Brown in would be to have Volkman and Brown be our halves pairing for the next decade, lead us to the promised land etc., that and for the name recognition sort of thing i.e "Mount Smarts new favourite son", if we whiffed on Brown, I don't think we will be in the market for any other halves

dylan brown will never come here, told me one night on the drink he refused last time round we chased him because the warriors "stink" haha not even lying. get vibes that brown would be equally 'stink' outside of an elite environment. he struggles enough as it is when moses is not playing
