Recruitment 2023/2024 Warriors Recruitment DISCUSSION

they will have lodges money to spend, and no Walsh type on the roster who will command a big pay rise. Maybe Egan needs money spent on him.

You can’t take the salary cap with you, might as well spend it…

… don’t know where though, honestly wouldn’t extend Johnson until the very end of the year, just go year by year till he hangs it up. you could buy a real prop whose better than bunty to go with all our fake props we’ve been using.

Come November 1 how can the club convince Payne Haas and his brother to come to the Warriors? Man he would be ideal to take over Tohu Harris in 13 jumper.

Got to dream big 😂

I think hes after that money aye - give him a mill, maybe 1.1mill (Lodge and SJs money) and wed have the best pack in the bizz.

I really do think that were going to struggle to recruit elite spine players so having a top forward pack who can run through most teams, and a decent spine with players like Egan, Te Maire Martin and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad means we'd be pushing top 4-6 most years

Who would be our 7 next year? Are our current rookies gonna be ready by then

Hmm probably not to be honest, but I think with them being such highly valued Aussie halves, they won't stick around here if they're not getting any game time, so we probably have to give them a gig.

I'd like to see Metcalf given 10-12 games this year which would bring his tally up to around 20 career games. Start him next year and then he's up to 40+ by the end of next year, and through that difficult period for a half. We'd be able to see if he's worth keeping at that point.

Volkman - my guess is hell get a few more games this year - 5 or 6, then maybe 5-10 next year and then 2025 is when he has a dig at a starting half

I wouldn't mind waiting till close to the end of the year to see how Johnson does and offering him a year contract on the low end. We have the added bonus of being able to wait as he doesn't want to move to Australia, and obviously loves the warriors.

Btw did the forum ever settle the debate on if we see Metcalf as a 6 or a 7?

Berry was pretty bad last year for us, but was mostly excellent at Q Cup last year, which suggests that he’ll turn out alright. Vailea needs to improve his defence but has obvious talent. If Pompey can put some consistent performances in he should be looking at being resigned as well.

If they expand the squads to 36 as has been suggested, we’ll be one of the bigger winners from that. It will give us full time spot to throw at players in Oz in spine positions, while being able to develop our own fringe players on full time contracts.

Yeah but there's no way we can go into next year with Williame and 2 guys with under 20 games and Ali. Deffo need a stop gap atleast for nek year. Maybe we keep Pompey, maybe we get someone like Herbert or Hiku back, won't break the bank and offers a bit of something.

Might be wishful thinking but surely 2 of Vailea, Berry and Ali will be 30-50 games in to their career and ready to go week in/week out from 2025.
By the time next year rolls around Berry and Vailea will be regarded at the least solid first grade quality but more likely more highly regarded and consistent. I bet the coaching staff can’t believe they have these two plus Ali in the squad. Williams and Pompey are doing well enough for me.

Sydney Roosters' centre Paul Momirovski is on the lookout for a new NRL club after slipping down the pecking order in Bondi.

Momirovski has become a bit of a journeyman despite being just 26-years-old, debuting for the Roosters in 2018 as he went on to play for four clubs in four years, before returning to the Chooks last season.

While he was a squad member, Momirovski didn't take part in the Roosters' 2018 premiership or Melbourne's 2020 decider, however the centre did lift the trophy in 2021 with the Penrith Panthers in his maiden NRL premiership.

Despite showing some glimpses of talent last season, Momirovski has fallen down the pecking order in Bondi so rapidly that another change of scenery could be on the cards.

Currently unavailable due to a heavy concussion suffered in the off-season, The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Roosters have given Momirovski permission to negotiate with rival clubs despite being contracted another two years.

Already possessing James Tedesco, Joseph Suaalii, Joseph Manu, Daniel Tupou, Jaxson Paulo, Corey Allen, rookie Robert Toia and Billy Smith, the club have also reportedly signed English duo Dominic Young and Lewis Murphy for 2024.

The plethora of outside backs leaves Momirovski out to dry, however it's hard to imagine the centre would struggle in finding a new suitor.

He could find himself in new colours this season as the Roosters ready themselves to sign Parramatta forward Nathan Brown effective immediately, already reportedly shipping Tuku Hau Tapuha to Cronulla.

We had a go at this guy last time he was off contract, but that was pre-Webby.

At the risk of getting a telling off from Mt Wellington who has an uncanny ability to remember all my past drums I have been beating the answer to our centre problems is to sign Starford To'a. He is on the outer at tigers and isn't in their game day 13.
Let's trade for him as he is signed for two more years at tigers.
Williame for To'a would be a goer
Or one of our young prospects in a trade for him.
Starford can't be on more than 250 tops and he will immediately be our best centre as soon as he comes here.
Speed to burn
A nose for the try line
Strong fend
Reasonable defence
And experienced so that means he doesn't make rookie mistakes.
Still relatively young at 22

Not to shit on your post but I've never noticed him being or showing anything special tbh and if he can't make the tigers backline it's a bit of an indicator of where he's at isn't it?

Joe Ofahengaue can't make the Tigers lineup either. Reckon he's worth an enquiry?

Hadn’t noticed that- he was their player of the year last year- his stats were awesome.
Hell yeah- I’d take him now if they’d release him.
Still only 27- Auckland born… webby would know him from the tigers too.

Edit- a snippet from his wiki page-

2022

Despite Wests Tigers collecting the wooden spoon, Ofahengaue finished ninth in the competition for most tackles made,[51] second in decoy runs, and tenth in runs made.[52] He came 4th in the NRL's Hard Work Index, where he was described as having, "arguably the best year of his career".[53] One of two players to appear in every game of Wests Tigers season, he was awarded the Kelly-Barnes Medal as the best player for the club.[54]

Trades don't happen like that in NRL, unless someone is wanting an early release, or a club is trying to dump a player. Technically we aren't even allowed to talked to Toa.

I know you love the bloke, and he has family here (they actually sat behind me in the Tigers home coming match last year), but he's an unrealistic target for us until November this year. He's got some talent, but don't think he'll shift the dial for us. It's odd he couldn't crack a poor Knights side, and now is 4th in line at the Tigers (after Naden, Talau and Kepaoa). Still young though.
