Guuumon bro.
Otukolo is seen as a huge up and comer with massive potential.
He won't be on massive coin due to being so young and inexperienced.
As far as I'm aware, we still have some top 30 space for next year.

I can't see ANY upside in Warriors releasing him early. Can you?

Would love to hear of any other situations where a young potential star has been released 2 years early with out any compensation or upside for the team doing the releasing.

I just don't think it happens

Maybe he's not progressing as much as we'd like, maybe we don't see him as a future star, maybe he just wants to leave because there's too many in front of him and there's more benefit to us to have the extra roster spot.

Don't know really, but young guys moving for an opportunity happens all the time. Usually it's when they get signed a year out and their current club just releases them early, but *shrugs* it is what it is. No point holding him if we or him don't see a future for him in Warriors colours I suppose.

As for compensation, it rarely happens in any situation where a contract ends early. Usually it's more a case of "we'll release him once we find an adequate replacement" but that rarely comes from the other club.

Nah doesn't really count. Signed on for 2023 at Warriors so it makes sense for Roosters to no longer be interested in developing him.
Aaaand Roosters would only release him early if we took Lussick lol, which is something that helped the Roosters.

Yeah maybe compensation is not the right word, but it has to be mutually beneficial. Panthers need our young star hooker earlier than what he's contracted to us for?

We're looking for a few things too. We need to leverage anything we can to get a better team. Let's be more like the Roosters - they gave us what we wanted (Volkman early), but made us take Lussick....
Maybe we make them take Ben Murdoch-Masila or Sirro too lol. Or give us something we need, a nice prop for our rotation.

If not, then I'm more than happy to keep Otukolo on our books and try to groom him as our long term hooker.

We hold the cards in this situation, let's use them to benefit our team instead of releasing on compassionate grounds. Maybe they can be compassionate to us supporters and staunch the Panthers out

My impressions of the Webster interview.
Bear in mind I am on interview panels at work so I read a lot into small comments.

He is a details guy who will be hands on. More hands on than nearly all other NRL coaches. His words not mine by the way.
He corrects himself when he speaks as he thinks that getting the exact words into a sentence are important, or it could be he was dead nervous and realised that cu**s like me on message boards would be dissecting every word he said in his first interview & first impressions as a head coach. Probably the latter and if so good on him.
Bigged up Auckland. That will be useful in recruitment conversations if he can sell Auckland to Australians.
Used expressions like "fight our way out" and expressions involving motion. Such people make excellent leaders as they take action quickly.
That's about all I had in terms of reading between the lines.
He put end to speculation about our spine
It will be
1 Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
6 Te Maire Martin
7 Shaun Johnson
9 Egan
NSW cup Volkman and Metcalf
And I think that is the best choice as much as we would all like Metcalf to play.
He said it was a strong spine.
I think it is pretty mediocre spine. But much better than the 2022 spine.

How about making an offer to George Burgess?
Its funny how he was touted as the first million dollar forward at one stage of his career. Seems like he received very limited mins in the games be played but he averaged just 40m a game (4 appearances). Even in his last season at the Rabbitohs(2019) he averaged less than 70m a game.

If anyone got him, they would be buying him based off his past reputation.

TBH I don't really know why the Panthers need him. They have Kenny and Soni Luke was preferred over Otukolo in the Tongan side so not sure where I see him upgrading them.

Unless they're losing Luke or see more in Otukolo *shrugs*

Maybe insurance for the possibility of Luke leaving. He'll be 27 come the start of the season & might be chasing the best financial offer once he can negotiate with others come 'Nov 1st

Poor bugger has been super injury prone too.

From a non-Warriors perspective I can see why they’d want Otukolo.

He’s a young, base price back up with a lot of improvement in him. Panthers would back themselves to get him to his ceiling, and everything is easier if you’re playing behind a Rolls Royce forward pack like theirs.

It’d be a low risk, high upside signing.

You had to feel positive about the tone of voice from Andrew Webster. Pretty much layed out the spine, which is solid in all fairness and makes a lot of sense. Shaun Johnson will be under the most pressure to keep his spot through the course of the season.
Coaches will not necessarily keep their previous responsibilities but will share the load.
He wants to install resilience into his players. Will discuss last year with the group and then flush it.
I’m looking forward to the instagram posts in the next few weeks of the extended squad beginning pre season training.

Fair enough. Be interesting if there is an is an exchange on offer then .....we have a few options as back up hooker already. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes.

If they are giving up Otukolo 100% something is coming. I don’t think we can develop Otukolo and don’t rate him (atleast not in our system). We need someone further along the development line.

Burgess is broken physically, and has been in rehab this season.. Also plays nothing like he use to.

Look if he was signed for what he worth, which is minimum wage, I could understand it. But he won't move his family to NZ for a 1 year $130k deal. He'll either go to a Sydney club or get a bit more money in the UK.

Wonder if Agar has a big Prop from the UK ready to come over
