I'm a diehard Blues fan but Queensland deserved that. Incredible game!

Agree that Luai is a dick - would rather have seen him and DCE go at it in the battle of the most punchable face in the NRL rather than Gagai and Burto.

The was rugby league at it's absolute best.

Seeing a lot of posts online with people criticising Cleary/Tedesco/Burton/insert other NSW players name here...

From this Qld fan's perspective, every NSW player last night played hard, and played well* in a hostile environment. None should be embarrassed or insulted about their onfield performance. Huge display of guts in the second half on their tryline.

*I'll caveat this with Luai standing over KOed Cobbo. Really don't like the side of his game where he loves to spray people from a position of dominance. Hate the various times he's laughed at struggling opponents, pointed at them and laughing after making errors. Good player, just needs to be less of a dick on the field.
I have commented in the past after growing up reading RLW and their player ratings reading the ones by NZ journalists is baffling. They used to rate the All Blacks after wins with all 9s and 10s and after losses 2s and 3s.

RLW used to be 5 poor, 6 and 7 average rating, 8 a good game, 9 is a pretty exceptional game. A 10 would end up on the front cover and have an article about it with the previous 10s as it was so rare.

I thought the ratings for the All Blacks game were a bit odd. They didn't lose by 40. These ones are just as out there even the guy from the winning team getting a 3 and a 4. Ok sin bins may knock it down a bit.

It was a competitive game played at a high level with a lot of intensity. Queensland were making a lot of breaks and got a few disallowed tries. The win was well deserved. I don't thing the Blues were that bad.

Some of those ratings are clearly bizarre (on both sides)... Couple of examples...

Tino - rated 5.5... 56 mins off the bench, 15 runs for 116 metres, 1 tackle break, 33 tackles, 1 miss... how is that a 5.5...

Tupou - 5... 80 mins, 19 runs for 160m, 9 tackle breaks... was he perfect? no, but a 5 is rough given the attention he got.

Noone (in my opinion) played badly... sure, some tackles were missed, errors made etc but that happens when playing at the highest level.

Talakai says THANK YOU for saying no one played badly!!!!

He had two left hands last night !

Lost the ball at critical stages.

He also forced a couple of Queensland errors...

I don't think he played badly given the situation he came into. Injected into the pack with exhausted players around him - he slogged his guts out. He made mistakes, sure. One of the errors assigned to him though was actually a bad pass from Luai...

Do I think Talakai should have been in the NSW squad? No. Wighton should have been there IMO, and if Mitchell or Trbojevic were fit, he'd be nowhere near the side. But thrust into a game from the bench in an unfamiliar position against a team dominating field position/territory... I'm putting that on Fittler not on Talakai.

Don't get me wrong - he wasn't outstanding, but at that stage they were trying to play catch up football under pressure. To me, Talakai's selection on that bench was just one selection error for last night's game. I felt NSW needed another prop, and they were trying to cover the field with back rowers, but with Klein not calling much in the way of penalties (either way), the average play the ball speed was really slow. NSW were missing a lot of go forward, which for halves like Cleary & Luai - really restricts them. They get a lot more time and space at club level with the NRL rules currently favouring a faster game (i.e. more like Origin 2 which was reffed differently)...

Freddy reminds me of Nathan Brown in some ways in that they overthink selections and try to play too smart

Man what a game that was, the intensity and efforts on efforts were out the gate.

Best rep game ive seen Ponga play, he was busting tackles and looked dangerous everytime he touched the ball, Holmes, Hunt, Carrigan, big Tino...outstanding.

Thought old giraffe neck was the difference tho, putting those huge kicks in when they were going nowhere in their sets, and then the kicking early turning NSW around and getting the errors off the back of them.

Thought Tedesco tried his hardest and looked the most likely out of all the blues, tho i thought the Penrith connection let them down a bit tonight and they wouldve expected more from them, those passes from Luai and Chrichton we're costly as fuck and Cleary just couldnt stamp himself on that game.

Cant believe Wighton didnt play and im sure there we're better options in other position too, pressure should come on Freddy after this.

Gotta also add 10 minutes in the bin is worth seeing some bash again....loved it.

With all those head knocks at the start of the game im sooo glad we're not reffed like yawnion, they wouldve been sending players off right from the first minute!

Cleary had a bit of an off night

Rugby refs would have sent off Cobbo's team mate 🤣

kos

When I looked at the Nsw side before the game it had only two recognised props Auckland born Paulo and Safiti.
Jake is not a prop and i saw him making no forward momentum a few times.
Nsw is not the wariors-we just run out of props or let them go on sweetheart deals.
Nsw has props to pick by the dozen.
Slater-impressive eh.

A bit after the punch up at the start of 2nd half I saw a player tackled. Second man in caught him with a fist to face, then reached around from the far side grabbed his ear and yanked. Reminded me of the good old days watching Shaun Fitzpatrick lead the ABs.
Could just see the ref looking the other way to make sure he didn't upset Mr Fitzpatrick

Phil Kearns said Fitzy at the scrums used to tell him to go home and find his mama, all he was thinking at the time was go home and find his mama 🤣

NSW have come out of the decider looking like sore losers after Johns was on the tele having a sook that he’ll have to listen to their shit for the next year. Cleary has taken off to Bali and will miss his club game. The panthers seem to be be pretty up themselves saying they think they’ll still beat the tigers this weekend while resting their origin players, probably will to be fair. Rumours they had a bit to do with RCG not being selected again for NSW from bad blood.

No suspensions for the fight, just a slap on the wrist.

So smash em in the head live on our most widely viewed event, but don’t say any homophobic words that get caught on camera in the background 🤣

Nine was even using the fight in their advertising!
