General 2022 NRL Finals Discussion WEEK 2

And here was me thinking that with Crichton, Kikau and Koroisau leaving that the Panthers might drop off a bit next season.

But with the Panthers winning the SG ball, Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup competitions I think they will be just fine.
While we still carry on about making those three grand finals back in 2011 they look set to actually take it a step further and win them all.
Uncle Ivan strikes again.
Oh well onto our ninth coach since then…. :banghead:

I not only look back on the 3 Grand Finals from 2011 but also all of the critcism of Cleary that he'd get a team to the finals but not further we need a winner like Bluey McClennan.

Who is still coaching in the NRL now?
Which one of those two can build a team and sustain it over a few years?

The Bluey v Cleary debate concluded many years ago… 2012 to be exact.

One is a premiership winning coach, the other a TV commentator at best … 🤢

I wonder when Stacey will make his debut…preaching his words of wisdom on why we are so bad…

Should failed Warrior coaches should allowed to commentate about the team ? 🤔

I wasn't on the Bluey train just pointing out how bad all of the comments before he took over how he'd fix everything.

He took over a side making the finals consistently. Kind of like the Eels debating Arthur we had people wanting another coach as we'd go further. Need to make the first step (the finals) first.

It was ended in 2012 we found out the hard way. Although there are still some articles now and then with comments saying Bluey needed more time.

To be honest I don't mind Bluey on commentary. He's a lot better than some of the recent players. We complain about Aussie commentators being biased but our guys commentate about "we" instead of being neutral. Not sure if the NZ feed goes to Australia or not.

There isn't many recent NZ based players I've been impressed on their commentary.

Sounds equally infuriating as the people who were glad Shaun left in 2018 as he was inconsistent. He only put in an outstanding performance once every three games instead of every game so although we had just made the 8 that year he needed to go for the good of the team.
We needed and the only thing that was acceptable was someone who was in contention for man of the match every game.
How many halves have there been that consistent in gut history of league? Wally Lewis ?

What I will never understand, is after a successful 2018 campaign (ignoring our W1 knockout), why management were hell bent on tearing that team apart.

Rather than keeping with the good vibes, and running it back another year, they let a number of key individuals leave. The treatment of Isaac Luke was equally puzzling, after he played his arse off during the season….CG really got ahead of himself that year..

And also a case of what might have been for the Warriors if Phil Gould stuck around a bit longer and sorted out the pathways…. Sigh…

Penrith’s to lose imho. Despite what my Penrith supporting mate thinks (Parra are their bogey team), I can’t see Penrith losing tbh
If anybody gets over the panthers it’s definitely the eels. The Warriors become the longest premiership drought if the eels win I think? Plus the fact we haven’t won a premiership.

Maybe if the Warriors humbly approach Ivan Cleary, apologise for sacking him, and offer him full control over the team without interference from alpha dog Mark Robinson. Todd Payton did an excellent job at the Cowboys this year too. We had some good coaches, we just let them go.
We didn’t sack Cleary he got a better offer and went, people assume we’d have Penrith version of Cleary when in reality we’d have the Tigers version of Cleary with the resources our club has vs Penrith

It’s now or never for eels
It is not a best out of three
They just need to lift for one game
Also two panthers were on report any news back from that ?
I’d be shocked if any players missed the gf.
Still think it’s a bit rough the likes of JT miss wc games due to an incident at club level, seems pretty suss essentially one countries administration can effectively block players playing for another country against them

My bad if that was the case. I seem to recall that Clearly wanted to stay on better terms, but when that request was denied he looked elsewhere.

‘Sorta’ we offered him a shorter term than Panthers, he’s mentioned he would have likely stayed if we’d matched it but we didn’t. Despite going on a run to the gf later that year people forget we weren’t going so flash while the contract negotiations were playing out and you could understand the Warriors being wary of longer terms, hindsight is a wonderful thing though
