General 2022 NRL Finals Discussion WEEK 1

A lot of talk the last week or two about Suaalii and his contract and if he will move on. Talk about wanting to play fullback and how Tedesco is in the way.

After today he's a year or two off being ready for that position. He needs another off season or two to fill into his frame. Then add a year or two of experience.
Doesn't know when to pass or run

I thought that was the worst game of the weekend tbh- refs ruined it for me- probably deserved a couple of the sin bins but 7 was ridiculous.
Had all the ingredients of a great game but descended into a bit of a farce.

I thought south’s at the start were milking penalties and drew the send offs. Once the ref started sending people off the roosters got their back up and we’re hounding the ref over every indiscretion as well.

It descended into a spiteful match which as Robinson says turned into chaos at the end.

Love him or hate him, Bill Harrigan was the best!

Feel a little sorry for the Sharks

As the higher ranked team get to host the next game but it has been scheduled to be played at Allianz the “want to be” home of their opponents Souths

It was really odd that Taukeiaho was allowed back on the field. It was one of the worst concussions of the night seeing him play the ball in the wrong direction after the head knock. It definitely looked to be a case of finals football and a lack of a bench influencing the decision for him to return.

Definitely nasty, but he was hit around the jaw / nose and bleeding from the mouth. There was no forehead or brain impact from what I recall.

I’m sure they must do some basic arithmetic test to see if the lights are still on…..if they can’t do 1+1, count to 10 or the alphabet then game over…

And like clockwork the NRL have come down hard on JWH…so that his 3/4 match ban would be served by the Kiwis at the World Cup.

I get your point. It would of probably have been better to use CommBank for both games. Up until early next year Souths would of played more games at the new ground than the Roosters.

There always seems to be one club each year complaining about where their finals game is played. Manly complaining about moving theirs across the harbour bridge. The Sharks by all accounts were lucky to get to play the first week at their traditional home ground.

From a Warriors point of view it would be nice to make the finals and get a higher demand for tickets that the NRL consider moving our games to Eden Park or not. That would be a nice debate to have.

At least they have fixed up the home ground allocation stays with the higher side. Remember the outrage when the Warriors came 8th and won and due to the system in place got home grounds.

The current situation is also related to the amount of Sydney sides. The Sharks are giving up some advantage to a cross town rival. Likely will be out numbered to if you look at the support of the two clubs the last few years.

Have to love the negative league journalists.

On NRL360 last night the Souths vs Roosters was disgraceful. Rothfield on and on about Tedesco being taken out of the game. I thought he was going to complain about concussion protocols. No its the fact he got hit high. Well they did try and come down hard on the high tackles a few years ago. Back then the loudest complainer was Rothfield because they ruined Magic Round. He was like a broken record about Magic Round for a few years.

If that crackdown carried on there may have been some change with players lowering their target. There will always be head-high tackles but it's a matter of lessening the amount.

Rothfield it should be an automatic one-week stand down. As soon as a big name is set to miss a Grand Final he and the other negative journos will be the first to complain.

Before the game, Souths and the Roosters are the best at looking after their players with head knocks. Players come back on after a nasty blow. They skirted around it as well as they could.

First week of finals have been awesome to watch. I'm a big fan of the idea that the middle forwards determine who wins, and the half's determine by how much. After week 1 of the finals I've ranked the 30+ middle forwards that played in the finals - based on their form over the last month and round 1 finals. Just an opinion - so keen to hear who you would choose over who?
