Internationals 2022 NRL ALL STARS

That was epic entertainment, Patty Herbert you Maori legend!

Chanel's break near the end was the highlight of my year. Kodi made some clutch plays too, pretty sure he's the brains of the Nikorima whanau, we wait to see what Ash Taylor can do in the trials now, pretty hard to top that effort from both Chanel Harris-Tavita and Kodi.

That Maori forward pack lead by Tapine is fearsome, dominated them all night, this Wiremu Greig kid is the new Beastwood too, good times.

Warriors recruitment targets should be 1. Tapine (new Steve Kearney) 2. Nikora (new Logan Swann) 3. Herbert (new Herbert 2.0) 4. Rapana (new Richie Blackmore who never retires) 5. Greig (new Rusty Packer, not the sharpest tool but he's like an unguided missile on a good day).

Well , just watched the game and haven't read any comments yet. My brief summary is what an absolutely awesome game. Just an absolutely brutal smashfest.
Firstly I'd like to say Benji Marshall in commentary is really refreshing and he provides a very real analysis.
The first quarter was brutal and Kodi really stood out... I think He did what Kodi does best and showed great support play and was lightning around the ruck. I think as the game wore on his short side plays were effective but his kicking and game awareness let him down.
Josh Curran was good until the injury but being I a team with forwards getting run over dudnt help his cause and I hope his injury isn't too bad. But I think the game was won through the middle well and truly... the maoris forwards were just relentless...
And that's were I'll talk about Jazz. THE GUY WAS FUCKING AMAZING. Great defence , offloads that stuck and weren't shit. Aggression with sportsmanship, tough runs you name it ... he even shot some great passes from dummy half a top shelf game and I think he earned the starting 13.
Finally I'll touch on Chanel. I'll admit I'm a fan of his truly. I noticed his kicking has become stronger. And I think he warmed into the game and in the second and third quarters he was the stronger more dominant half. Playing in the middle, kicking well and putting on some nice plays. Like shuffling the ball to rapana quickly... not impressive on first glance but the awareness of space etc. Very impressive imo.
The funny bit is him playing fullback in the last quarter, he must be very vocal and able to count numbers etc. Organise a defensive line.....

Anyway great game 10/10

P.s I kind of want patty Herbert back....
In my 2022 predictions for the ladder I should swap the titans and sharks.

Did this count as one of the suspension games for Reece Walsh?

Serious question

Kodi frustrates me as I really want his explosive speed running in support but the rest is tidy enough to start. Perhaps it is 14 or nothing for him

I didn't see a lot of the game, I might try and watch the rest later today. It's a concept that hasn't really taken my interest I usually watch as its the first game to kick off the year but it often seem like the Maori are there as the Indigenous side need an opposition and the NRL All Star side was too good. The older concept was okay being marketed more towards the aboriginal side of things and yes it is in Australia. But it should be a bit more balanced now when you have two cultures.

I am looking forward to the trials next week. They are a unique watch each year.

On our guys I know the conditions weren't great but I didn't see much from our halves to create much excitement or sway me that either is a must to partner Johnson. Hopefully better conditions in the trials and players they have been training with help.

Curran the main thing was it was good to see he has stayed in shape to carry on from his improvement from last year.

Joe Tapine has be onnnnnn tonight
I can't remember if he's been playing prop for the Raiders or not. But with the new rules he could suit that position with his leg speed. A reason I'm keen on Pene for us.

Hopefully Tapine can reach his form from a few years back. He had that one series he was sensational for the Kiwis.

I thought it was a good game- really enjoyed it.
The weather didn’t make for entertaining football, nor did both sides being offside the whole game but it was tough and the players were willing.
The Maori kicking game was garbage and they looked a bit directionless but the forwards were dominant enough to make up for it.
Jazz played alright- looked better as a running forward than at dummy half- expect him to start the year in the 13 jersey.
Curran looked promising before he got ktfo- hopefully the collar bone is ok.
Chanel Harris-Tavita was a passenger- can’t really see how he is going to compliment Shaun Johnson.
Kodi was dangerous and had some moments but probably nothing he couldn’t do in a super sub role.
If that was a shoot out for the 5/8 spot I think I’m taking Taylor.

Tapine was incredible last night - he finished 2021 really strongly at prop for the Raiders so hopefully Sticky settles the fuck down with his selections this year & lets him play that position every opportunity his unvaccinated status allows.

As for Chanel Harris-Tavita, I can only suggest significant confirmation bias is currently required to support the view that he plays ahead of either Taylor or Nikorima this season. Last night was only 1 game however it was consistent with what we saw in 2021, which was very little. Real pity.

Yes but lets wait till the trials to see how Ash goes.

Fox league 502 will be showing a lot of trial games so we can judge.

Nor sure about Sky Sport Nz.

As for Patty Herbert.

I told you jokers when we let him go.

Sad day as the guy has attitude in spades now his talent has improved.

Warriors loss. Titans gain.

Sky has them listed for next week. Looks like on a Sky Select episode. When Vossy mentioned the trials last night I checked the planner and set them all to record.

Chanel Harris-Tavita is who he is which is limited.

Kodi showed why Kodi is the one holding Kodi back. The amount of times he second guesses himself with ball in hand is killing his impact.

Whether it's running, kicking, passing he so often checks his instinct and overthinks it. Good to hear Joey actually bring it up a couple of times.

Love to read Wrighty comments on Herbert, his favourite player’s performance
My Game assessment
1) Fantastic game. Long live the all star game.
2) Kodi played as good as whatever you thought of him going into the match. To my eyes he was absolute garbage. Must have butchered at least two tries and awful 6th tackle options where he gave away 7 tackle sets with lame bombs that were easily caught by the indigenious in their goal zone. He played at the level you would expect from a 4th in line half that spends half a season in Reserve Grade.
3) Chanel Harris-Tavita was worse than Kodi. If that is even possible. With a three on two overlap I realised just how left hand dominant is he is, as he was completely unable to pass to his right and the ball dribbled out of his hand feebly and bounced before the recipient and the try went begging. Kicks that were even worse than Kodi's. Including some left footed side kick on the 6th tackle that was intended to create a forced drop out but instead didn't go very far and was gathered easily by Indigenious. I hope the rumour is true we are shopping him around. I also hope the wish I created and wrote on a piece of paper and cast into a wishing well comes true that Kodi is fired into the sun.
4) Nicho Hynes wasn't much better than either Kodi or Chanel Harris-Tavita. And as much as I am bagging Kodi, and Kodi deserves to be bagged, Nicho worse than Kodi. Nicho as I expected and observed last year only passes the ball when all options for him as a ball runner have well and truely died. Rather than looking to be a play maker from the second he gets the ball he always tries to score a try himself regardless of how may defenders are in front of him or how far out from the try line he is. Even the try he created was dumb as he kicked his grubber on the 4th tackle.
5) David Fifta had me out of my seat. May be the best second rower of this generation.
6) The Maori props were beasts.
7) Jazz looked incredible.
8) Patrick Herbert looked like a man who has done some deep soul searching about his piss poor play in the last match of the Titans season and had re-invented himself in the off season. Good for him. He was an asset for he Marori but I still don't want him back at this stage. I also didn't like his haircut for what that comment is worth (this is a joke).
9) JAC's lack of involvement in the game was a poor effort for a captain and cost his side the match.

I’m a massive Fifita fan however there’s no way he’s at that level just yet - unquestionably he has the highest ceiling of his generation of edge forwards however he was absent for way too much of that game.

Real conundrum what to do with him as a Supercoach option this year!

He was only absent as Tapine winded him with the late shoulder charge and they decided to rest him to ensure no further bruising to his ribs in what was effectively an exhibition game. Had this been a regular season NRL match he would have been back from that hit quite quickly.
Andrew Fifita equals - The Boss.
When he is on the field the Boss is in the office.
