Recruitment 2021 Warriors Recruitment DISCUSSION

These are the guys from our current roster off contract in 2023 that I think will sign with Redcliffe:
- Matt Lodge
- Jack Murchie
- Jackson Frei
- Kodi Nikorima
- Ash Taylor
- Pride Peterson Robati

I think we will re-sign Montoya. And I have a feeling we will also try and re-sign Egan as i’m pretty sure he’s in the leadership group so the club and Brown obviously rate him. Jazz will most likely opt in his player option or re-sign. Ale will re-sign given the loyalty we’ve showed him by giving him a contract while injured.

Chanel will sign somewhere else, not the Dolphins, after we sign Metcalf.
None of these players have had a decent full year with us so based on history not a great loss. Lodge is clearly a fantastic prop (baring penalties & send offs) so he could be a big loss. Kodi & Ash are yet to prove themselves!

Nek minit ..

Football Director: Nathan Brown
Head Coach: Justin Morgan
Assistants: Craig Hodges, Tony Iro

If they were to go down this track, it could be too late? You would have been working on this as a plan B already. They must have known about POS plans ? The real only established coach would be Shane Flanaghan (would be handy).
Brown could definitely fill that role, next year is a big year for him, especially if we put together the roster that’s a possibility. A coach out there that’s been forgotten is Paul Green, won a title, coached origin and said he wants to be a coach again, or perhaps another role. Certainly limited in terms of the best being locked up under new contracts. Still hopeful for Brown but quite a few coaches under pressure next year, so if it’s not happening I think we need to look around. As said earlier Woolf is a possibility, would think about throwing a big offer at Ivan Cleary too. Won his title now and seems to have a soft spot for the club.

If Lodge is thought to be going then we bring one of the twins in now and get him ready to take over. As for Kodi and Ash , we should have Metcalf Manu and Walsh so between them should be fine. Also dont forget the young ones coming through the system.
As for coach go after Flannagon and move Brown to recruitment.

Or Cameron Ciraldo?

When POS signed fans accepted it was a short term effort to get back in the NRL's good books before heading back across the ditch. A couple of years was seen as a bonus, I was hoping for 3 so that we went through an entire contract cycle. He has been here for 4, which is remarkable really.

The two things that hurt is that it feels like next year will be the critical year to round out the squad, so for me he is going a year early for that to happen. However, I feel like we have cut away the inflated, inexplicable contracts of old for the first time in a long time. We have also recruited players at their prime for the first time in a long time. So whilst some signings haven't worked out as hoped, they have generally had logic behind them without a lot of opportunity cost. So in that sense, POS and the rest of the management team have set us up well. I agree with others who worry about our long term competency to keep the squad balanced and an attractive destination with shrewd signings.

Bigger than that for me, the worst case scenario is to lose your recruitment manager to a team with 30 free roster spots and a full cap. That has some serious implications and I'm worried about Walsh and Metcalfe (if we have signed him) personally as they are the types of players that POS puts the hard sell to. For Walsh, being the marquee player in a foundation team with Wayne Bennet and in his home State would be tantalising I'm sure. Hopefully Walsh and Shaun Johnson hit it off and create some magic so that he can get tied up in Warriors hype.

POS doesn't strike me as the sentimental type, or even one to play by the rules. He seems cutthroat which has benefitted us, but now has the potential to derail.

It will be interesting to see whether the NRL and media empires knock down the Dolphin's barriers to give them an advantage ala the Storm, or whether they get off to a slow start with mostly unfashionable mid-tier signings ala the Crushers.

I hope we sign an Aussie who is entrenched in Sydney/QLD club football. He can bounce back and forward to NZ and look at our youth in comparison to players coming through the Aussie system. I don't want a Kiwi who looks at our youth in isolation because generally their skill development and understanding of the game comes up short.

I fully agree that we need to cut ties with the Dolphins with immediate effect.

Are we sure that Isaiah isn't the secret forward we are getting? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

West tigers have rocks in their heads
As much as papali’i was terrific this season I don’t want him back as something in the parramatta environment clicked with Isaiah
He may not feel so inspired elsewhere
One swallow does not a summer make.
One good season does not make you a $600,000 forward in my eyes.
