People need to cool their heels on Manu. I'd be surprised if he signed for us.

Glad Jamayne Tounua-Brown has been moved on, he had his moment in the sun but I think is not quite a regular first grader.

I still think we need a decent hooker. That's what I'm waiting for.
The problem is that's theres only 6 decent hookers going around ATM and the Storm and Raiders have got 4 of them., Manly got to the top 4 with hookers worse than ours.
No ones letting go of there hookers.
This is Egans year.

North Queensland cowboys have signed him on a two year deal
I was thinking about why
And can only conclude with an expansion team coming demand for players and locking them in has increased
Maybe there will be a taker for kodi after all
I think Kodi will end up at Redcliffe, Bennett rates him

Well if it is cap related the article says " we couldn't offer him a deal past 2022" so that means there's some big money going to be tied up with an incoming player one thinks

Na I don't think so, he would be lucky to be on more than $250k - Not much money free'd up, even if it's a min wager. Probably just that fact he's out of favour, was lucky to get gametime last season. I'm thinking we'll be snagging a couple after Nov 1, and a promotion of a junior or 2, leaving a bunch of cash for 2023.

Bennett talks up a lot of his players he has built up a relationship with. Remember when he said he chose Milford over Hunt because he could build around Milford lol

Anyway he has stated that he wants Munster for Dolphins: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...m/news-story/afff584f0557593bfc628552a7bfbf17

Going to be a logjam of the 3 misfits Taylor, Nikorima and Milford all trying to go back and play under him again. Atleast 1 other will surely be there - all will be trying to undercut their rates to play for Wayne and be in Brisbane. All 3 of them want to be in Bris for family reasons.

Redcliffe in 2023 to play for the expansion team is a great fit for all concerned
He would play his best football in a no expectations environment
Unfortunately a key word in that sentence is 2023

Let's get the Manu hype even higher

Check out these highlights

Some of those passes would be called forward at the Warriors. Anyway, for the range he wants that's a pretty average highlights video IMO. At close to a mill, you need to be a proven game breaker. It's a totally different story when you play for a different club to the Roosters, whose forwards dent the line to create space for their halves to create mismatches and gaps.

He is good. But he's not great. You don't pay close to a mill for something "good".

Anyway I trust POS and his salary cap management. He has saved us coin w a few astute cheap signings so might be worth a splash. I would rather B Smith and supposedly he's looking for less than what Manu is asking...

Agree, no way Manu is a million dollar player, however I don’t trust POS to not pay overs for him. People seem to be conveniently forgetting the bad signings he’s made - he would be running at no better than 50/50 hits and misses which is why we haven’t improved.

I agree he's not worth a million, but he is a great player.

I watch a lot of Roosters games (probably 90%+) and at least once or twice a game he creates something out of nothing. Imagine a supercharged Hiku with a far better running game and strong defensively.

Yeah when I first heard about us looking at Manu in such a key position (fullback or half) and for a million I was surprised.

I love watching Manu play, but in terms of those positions there are better options available. Guthersona off contract, Munster soon, hell, why not throw a million at Sam Walker or Sualii, who are probably better talents in their respective positions.

I think Joey brings more though - he’s obviously very marketable and is a kiwi, I assume he’s a great trainer and also brings leadership. I think he’s a winner through and through and while he may not have as high a ceiling as some of those other players, I do think a lot of those other aspects really mean he would be a top player for us.

Best case scenario we sign him for $8-900k, which would be a steal imo

All this hope being put on Joey Manu. But considering we may offer a mill.... Do we really think he is better than Roger Tuivasa-Sheck? IMO he's not a million dollar value. He's an awesome centre and fullback but not the game changer i think a lot of people are expecting him to be.
I think he’s equal to Roger Tuivasa-Sheck but in different ways.

I didn’t think Roger Tuivasa-Sheck was worth a million though…

Both of the above two posts touch on a point I was about to make and spent the last twenty minutes compiling.

I am going to make the case that Manu will be at least as good a spine player as Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and he was on $1.1M so therefore Manu is worth as $1M too as a potential fullback. In addition Manu is more versatile as can play standoff as well in the spine so is a better spine asset that Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
Only one member of this forum used to question the salary value of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and that was Mr B who also as it happens is panning the salary value of Manu at a potential $1M. The rest of you though should be willing to concede the point that if Roger Tuivasa-Sheck was worth $1.1M then so might be Manu be. Manu has looked class at fullback on his occassions there and here is the stats comparison between the two players this year

I personally would play Manu at fullback and put Walsh at no. 6. Walsh has a better boot whereas Manu will physically be better under the high ball and defensively out back. I think he will only improve. In terms of comparison and worth of Manu if he plays fullback I agree he is worth a million as is a long term prospect and is just a classy player. I always watch the Roosters play because of him and this year he did roam around alot like a fullback turning up in all sorts of positions, creating tries or scoring himself. A better try scorer than Roger although Roger was amazing defensively and running the ball back after a quick play the ball etc. If we miss out on Manu then Metcalf looks like a good option for a Fullback from what I have seen...I guess we just wait until November 1st to see if there are any reveals that improve our side.

A little unfair comparison. Most here will say this year and last Roger Tuivasa-Sheck was off his peak. Go back to 2018/19 stats for the benchmark performances.

Also these are attacking stats whereas Roger Tuivasa-Sheck’s value was his defence, meters made, output, leadership and off field contribution.

Here are a few years 2019 as you mentioned and I also picked 2017 as that was a very good Roger Year

Another small point is that Manu is 25 - if we can snag him for 2022 and 2023 those should be the premier years of his career from a maturity vs athleticism perspective.
Notwithstanding the Roosters have better forwards his numbers should lift with us due to his age ripening.
