So with the news that Fusitua is likely on the move for next year, freeing up a spot and a few hundred k presumably, what do we think the move is - do we sign a replacement now (not much available) or do our usual ‘wait and see’.

I like how we have the money to see what happens, but it’s obviously quite unsettling squad wise. On top of all the injuries we had this year, letting go of Maumalo and picking up Walsh, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Lodge did impact the team significantly

The newspaper article said Warriors contributing a "huge" chunk of his salary so I wouldn't get too carried away by how much is being freed up. With a fixed group of 30 players it's the spot that is the big thing for us.

Even paying 40% which is fairly hefty we’d still have over $300k to spend, so that’s still a significant amount. I’m hoping it’s only 30% which is still a lot, but would give us around $360k

I still intensely hate Will Smith (the player) for deliberately passing the ball into a warriors player from dummy half to win a penalty. cu** move. cu** player. He can fuck off.

No grudges here...
Is that the same one where he picked the ball up then bounced it like a basketball it off Issac Luke who was lying prone on the ground and the feckhead ref gave them the penalty?.......can remember that one setting me off raging.......even thinking about it now gets me going.

People still seem to want to sign Rene Ranger. A far better prospect from the Northland team would be the Halfback Sam Nock. Tough, quick nuggety player who could play 7 or 9. Wouldn't be overly cheap being a Super Rugby Rep.

Why would we be paying anything if he asks for a release?
The only reason he will be moving on is because he’s been told he’s not featuring in our plans.
If he wanted to, he could stay here and play half arsed and collect his $520k pay check for the next two years.
He’s shopped himself around to others who have said they’re happy to have him, but not at $520k, so Fusitua will approach us and say “team x wants me at $300k a year. I’d be happy to move if you top the remaining value up to what I’m earning currently”, so we top him up an extra $220k each year.

It’s a win win - Fusitua gets the new move at the same rate that he’s currently earning, and we get $300k extra for the next two years.
It’s not a complete win for us, but looking at what $1 mil has got us for the last two years, we’d be better off paying $600k to someone else and going with that.

Based on experienced backs i would guess we could be looking at Dylan walker, Isaako, Mansour or Mead. Would prefer Isaako out of the lot considering he can cover fullback as well if needed.
I’d prefer Dylan Walker to be honest - is a great super sub, can play centre, hooker, back row, half and FB. With Nikorima leaving next year, and hopefully a couple of our back rowers moving on and potentially one or two moving to prop in the next few years, I could see Walker being a top player to come on after 30min.

I know it won’t happen tho, he’s probably looking to lock down a starting spot somewhere. Still only 27 so could see 5 or 6 years worth yet

Agree, Also thought of him as well but thought we may be looking at the more wing/fullback specialist, whereas i feel Dylan Walker is more a specialist Centre. Wouldn't play him at Back Row and has been tested as a 5/8 with not much success. More in the Peta Hiku mould in which he can fill in at desperate times.

Nah mate, The Forum genuinely wanted Ranger between 2008 and 2016-ish and there were discussions about him each and every year to the point where it's now a laugh to suggest him again. He's 35 and slowly winding down in the NPC.

Sam Nock would be a great dummy half though.

Perfect as a back up experienced player then? Which is exactly what i think we are after. Wont cost too much and can fill a gap when there are injuries.
Yeah fully - if we’re looking for a back up who can do a job when need be, we’ll be paying the bare minimum you’d think - we’re not going to get a super consistent starter in that situation, unless we get lucky with another Montoya

A battle is great for our level of freight. If he has decided he wants, to leave he may be willing to take a hair cut. He still has a couple of years to go so freight on both seasons would hurt.
I thought if a player want to leave before his contract's up then the club's not liable for any freight paying? The freight paying only comes in when the club tells the player he's leaving before his contract's up?
