General 2021 NRL Premiership GRAND FINAL

Just gotta say, I have never seen two such biased commentators as Rabs Warren and Gould last night. Rabs has been a Rabbitoh all his life so that is understandable, but Gould??? He must hate Penrith.

I used to prefer the Channel 9 commentary as it felt more big match as they were the guys we were used to and the ones in all of the media shows. Now when there are alternative commentary I stick with the Fox broadcast.

Both are negative especially on the refereeing but I've occasionally swapped teams after an event has occurred. The Channel 9 team often has me wandering if they actually like the sport.

Yep they’re all just doom merchants lately about the game

Jett Cleary, sounds like a Thunderbirds puppet. If he was any good Pete O'Sullivan would have signed him, he's always trying to trade Sean for a better son
If Jett ever became an NRL player and joined a club Wayne Bennett was part of, guess what "imaginative" headline the media would come up with?

Definitely would prefer an earlier GF. Actually, I'd prefer it on a Saturday, too. Respect to/question the sanity of (not sure which, really!) anyone who decided to watch the whole two hours of pre-game guff on TV last night. And big ups as they say to the man who invented the fast forward mechanism for TV from those like me who didn't...

Every time i see a photo with Ivan and the trophy i cant help but think that could have been the warriors, it should have been the warriors. How did they get it so wrong.
You really wanna know?

It did surprise me. He has had such a close connection to the club going way back, yet he wasn't even neutral.

the guy is a fucking moron. Gives a cheap plug to his warrior fan base commenting how walkers try reminded him of Stacey Jones in 2002… I know some of you here were jerking off to that comment but please …. did stacey pull out a gigantic fend on his way to scoring his try?……. 🙄
It was absolutely nothing like the Stacey try..

Andrew Saville on the radio this morning while talking with a few others made the statement if Cleary was here the Warriors would of won a premiership by now. That's an easy statement seeing as we'd never know.

Chances are if he didn't leave when he did things would of been more stable as did get more out of the players than his predecessors. Things likely wouldn't of been as turbulent.

Most articles after losses during his tenures were fill of comments about how we'd never win anything and Bluey would of been better or Bluey would takes us all of the way. It would of been likely if we had a bad year or the club felt things were stable they would of made a change thinking they had a ready replacement in Bluey. We probably would of started out turbulent period later instead.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a parting of the ways as this club does have a habit of finally getting things right and losing focus or making changes that aren't necessary. Like in the early 2000's when management started looking at a union side or Cleary's departure.

It was great having a stability with the same coach and making the finals reasonably consistently. I know people say we often snuck in but I'd rather have that than the one finals appearance we have had since which we ended up sneaking in.

edit TLDR: i like Ivan

i think that what we saw with the panthers was a repeat of what we would have seen at the warriors.

Ivan made a claim last year that the team were unprepared for the pace and reffing changes that happen in the grand final.
I think this is what caught him at the warriors as well.

I noted in a preliminary game this year how much more driven the team looked. I noted in the storm game that they out stormed the storm. My way of saying they understood the rules were changed and pushed them to the limit. The storm were so unprepared for another team to do this that it negated their advantage in finals and being that both teams were pretty equal, unprepared to fight at that level.

Some said this was their grandfinal, early. To me it just showed that they understood at last what was required to win one.
IMO Souths got a couple of lucky plays, individual brilliance that pushed the score closer than the game showed. The panthers showed up as a team, and grafted as a team. Tiredness affected both sides but the panthers were toughened by the wars they had fought. The Bunnys just thought they should win because.

In the end the score was closer than it should have been but the right team won and it was a fun game to watch.

I always cringe when people talk about how the warriors have an easy draw. It worries me when they are expected to win and when they are playing with the breeze. IMO they play better into the breeze and against the best. They were giant killers at their best. This is what they need to be again and based on this year, i just cant see it.

We need someone to lead the Warriors into the teeth of battle, harden them the fuck up and take them to victory. Ivan understands this now, thats why his team won. I wonder who our Ivan will be?

I don't know if we would have won it under Ivan, we would have been much better off, but he probably can't keep Maloney from leaving for the roosters and he would have had to play those U20s (Konrad etc) at some point, he couldn't have kept Luck from falling apart or Locke from being a drunk either. Still a stupid move thinking Bluey would be just as good.

John Hart predicted that the club did not know what it was losing. He was correct.

Somebody posted that Ivan was a typical league bogun. Last time I knew boguns didn't live on the insular peninsular. I think is family are quite well off.

Panthers lost one to win one. They did well to make two grand finals. I think they are in a good position to defend it next year or at least be in contention for the next few years as most are in their prime,

The lose one of their try scorers from last night and their 18th man to the Bulldogs.

Souths get Mitchell back but need to replace two key people. Their halfback and their coach. Demetriou has had a long apprenticeship under Bennett, trainer wheels come off next year.

He is definitely not a Westie Bogan.

it would have been good during the presentation if they had of mentioned Mt Albert as Nathan cleary’s junior club
