Just slightly off the point...but this relates to SK, who is the assistant coach of the best team in the comp right now, with only a 12 month contract.

I was watching the All Blacks last night, who are now officially the best team in the world again.

Ian Foster was a reasonable first class player, but a less then reasonable provincial coach. Many thought he was a better rugby politician than a coach.

Many thought Hansen picked him as assistant, because they had been mates at school, and he posed no threat to Hansen. The late All Black coach Eric Watson said something to the effect you never picked a good coach as an assistant.

The best performing Kiwi coaches were Dave Rennie, Razor Robertson and Joe Schmidt. Many thought the NZRFU stuffed up letting the Australians poach Rennie, and didn't have the balls to go with Robertson.

However, here we are, he has not only produced a very good All Black team, but was smart enough last night to pick a mid week team to play Argentina. They won less than comfortably, if three clear tries is uncomfortable.

In doing so he didn't smash the Argentinians confidence, so they might even give the Australians a tough two games coming up.

Even if South Africa were to beat us in both the next two games they will not win the Rugby Championship, although they would get the number one spot back.

So how did such an ordinary coach do this? Maybe he isn't a bad coach, he just needed a decent roster.

Does it mean that SK was a bad coach, or just picked two shite clubs with shite rosters and absolute shite management?

How would SK go coaching the Storm?

I wonder if he is being lined up as a replacement for Bellyache?

There has been a lot of discussion the last few years about coaches choosing the right club or the right job. A bit tricky as there are only 16 jobs.

After failing at the Eels Kearney had top to grow as a coach again. He may have thought he had enough experience gathered to give it another shot. He probably needed to do more due diligence on the club he was coming into, his previous time here as a player and being a kiwi may have meant too much sentiment came into it.

Barret after failing at Manly is probably looking at something similar with the Bulldogs. He may be a good coach but time would be running out. Gould may decide he needs an experienced coach to build a roster if the recruits next year don't improve things.

If Kearney takes over the Storm the success may carry on. It might not be premiership level. But the challenge would be different (initially) to building a roster where he's struggled. It would be carry on the current systems and refreshing the roster. Initially he might be able to recruit due to the previous success. How long would that last? As we have seen he's not a name that attracts talent, being at an Australian club may ease that a bit.

Then can he stay on top of the current trends happening on the field. Or in the case of the Storm lead the way. He's been pretty dogmatic on his approach with the previous two roles.

Could see it similar to Stuart at the Roosters minus the premiership. Carry on the previous coaches work but things would slowly decline.

Cos he isn't Bellamy and the Broncs have never replaced Bennett...life goes on...I was just asking like.

However Melbourne as a club have developed a massive culture, it isn't just Bellyache.

Same with the All Blacks. New Zealanders by nature are not arrogant, but all the All Blacks I have met have a type of arrogance, or self confidence about them.

I don't mean that they are not nice guys, I have friends and acquaintances who have been ABs, but they just have that inner arrogance about them.

They were getting hammered by the Argentinians on the line last night, with a massive territorial, possession and penalty count against them, and they didn't give.

It was like you are not as good as us, and we are going to show you.

How did the panthers go from looking unbeatable to bog average in the space of 2 weeks?

Did the opposition teams all step up meaning they did not play at their optimal ability during the season??? Did these teams need finals footy as an incentive to step up their game???

And if so, what (if anything) does that say about us and our lack of ability to step up our game???

You are right. As mentioned it is a pet peeve of mine. Had his bad game been in a regular season match I would not have blinked an eyelid.

Which NHL team do you support? I havn't followed for years, but used to follow the Canucks.

Kind of got 2 Penguins, got me hooked when they went on a run to win the Stanley Cup. Also jumped on the Golden Knights when they entered the comp so I could follow a team from the start without the history and Baggage- luckily they’ve had pretty much instant success for and expansion team, curious to see if Seattle can replicate

I also used to collect hockey cards and have a lot of rookie cards in my house of 1990s players.

I havn't watched in a long time. When I caught a peek at a game a few years ago the game was so fast that a lot of the goals were bang - bang and ricochet's as it was hard to beat the defensive patterns and neutral zone traps and left wing locks etc.

I also used to collect hockey cards and have a lot of rookie cards in my house of 1990s players.

It’s a very fast game, generally found watching the players reacting was easier than following the puck lol. Like the power plays where teams lose a player for 2 mins in the case of a penalty, usually forces a team into all out attack. Empty net scenarios always seem crazy too

i know nothing about the game except it is fast brutal and they allow punchups 🤣

Canucks fan here. Went to see them first time in '71 at the Coliseum.

Compared to any sport I had been involved in back home in NZ this was off the scale. The guy playing the Wurlitzer was the winner for me and the Biff was like WWF.

The main player I met growing up that had some arrogance about him was Eon Crossan. He came to our school after moving from Southland to play for Bay of Plenty.

Came with a rep to take some PE classes.

I remember him we were pleased with some of our kicks. Anyone else would praise the kid or give them some technical help. His response "Anyone can kick a rugby ball".

When he move to league and he made tackling seem optional you would hear the next week at our school "Did you see the game, anyone can kick a rugby ball. But tackling that's a real skill".

Are you talking about hockey or rugby league when you used to play.

Would be a good line to use the first day you turn up to training.

He was there to kick goals, which he did, I bet the Souths boys sorted out the arrogance though.

They tried a blue halo around the p7ck using TV special effects and it was awful
The power plays are exhilarating
In a match you get really amped as you need your team to convert those opportunities

I went to GM place a few times. Saw Brett hull and Wayne Gretzky lined up on the same line during 99s brief time in st Loius

When I lived in Calgary we made a ten player trade with the leafs who bent us over. We gave up Doug Gilmour and Jamie McCown and got back nothing of value
Trades are frequent in the NHL and sports forums there are full of trade proposals for fans to speculate on
The Canucks forum has maybe 30 000 members or even 50 000 so popular is ice hockey in Canada
Each match day a different fan rather the site administrator starts the match day thread and the fan spends hours and hours making an advanced photo shop opening post with graphics team lists and exciting features
There are a lot of forum games that I gut ideas from and have introduced on thus site
Match day threads have maybe 700 pages
I can't overstate how off the hook the NHL is in Canada for popularity
I lived in south Vancouver about 30kms outside downtown way in the suburbs
Despite the distance from gm place during game 6 vs the leafs kids were out on our street waving white towels at all the passing cars
After game 7 loss of the Stanley cup final against New York and Mark messier me and my friends caught the sky train downtown to watch the inevitable riot break out
The riot and looting did break out and we had to go home for safety
Rioting and looting will not break out after a rugby league grand final with the warriors in it
