General 2021 NRL Premiership Finals - WEEK 2

Keighran had an off game he’s been filling in pretty admirably for them later part of the year, would have been handy to have this year and probably a better option than Sean O'Sullivan
I lived in Canada for 16 years ago and was indoctrinated into ice hockey while over there. You have no choice but to get into it as it is everywhere and everything. Ice hockey is bigger there than rugby union is here if that is possible to believe
A lot of my views are transferred from NHL and ice hockey wisdom.
One of my beliefs I talk about based on NHL wisdom is the need to stand up for yourself and get into fisticuffs if neccessary espscially if they take a run at your star play maker
The other wisdom is their beliefs about playoffs.
The playoffs there last for 2.5 months as the series are 7 games each and 16 teams make it.
A quote everyone says is "When the playoffs begin the real season begins".
"The best playoff players are all Canadian"
"Player X is a playoff player"
"Only the best players on your team are able to lead the way in the playoffs while all the average solid players are marginalised and contribute nothing given the intensity rise".
"Players are only remembered by what they do in the playoffs. No one cares about regular season heroes".

Based on all that background I have been exposed to my view is that Adam Keighran's performance, and Harpers performance last week was inexcusable and that is all they should be remembered for and their regular season exploits should count for zero.

My observation of the NRL is that the coaches and managers agree with me as have seen some good solid pl;ayers screw up in the playoffs and be exited from their club immediately afterwards. I agree with that mentality.

Also I have a pet peeve against guys who choke in playoffs. I played Gillette knock out for Cricket and also some club cricket playoffs and I always turned up and scored runs the weak hearted guys always flaked out. I have no patience for people who flake on their team with "an off night or an off game" when the chips are down in playoffs. You turn up. You make yourself turn up. Otherwise you are weak willed and can't handle pressure and never will.

The key in cricket we were taught at age group reps training was the three D's
"Dedication, Devotion, and Determination".
It is easy to be Devoted. It is hard to be dedicated and train year after year.
The hardest one is Determination. You either have an internal fire and steel will within you or you don't and Keighran and Harper flaked on their teams and cost them victories nearly single handedly.

I follow hockey bud I’m aware how rabid Canadians get lol.
Think it’s harsh to crucify a depth player after 1 bad game who had elsewise played admirably in a decimated squad

How can a team have two blokes called Hayze/Haze on the roster!!

Cracker game this. I'm starting to remember what the NRL used to be like.

If you ever needed more reason to dislike Blake Ferguson, that Hollywood after the 'crusher' will help

If we have signed Niukore and the Eels lose then I don't think he is playing our first game. He'll be sitting with the rest of our naughty boys.

It'd be 12-6 if the Chocolate Soliders had taken their penalty kicks. Take the points in finals.

Would still love to have him though

That was like turning back the clock.

Gee, when the Panthers kicked that ball away after the knock on...apparently, according to the ref it is only a penalty for the first 75 minutes of a match. I get it, the clock is off so time isn't wasted, but that is stupid.

I think the result was pretty fair in the end.

Thing I can't figure out is why was Pengai allowed on for a Free Interchange? They had no interchanges left and it wasn't an illegal play? Shouldn't they be playing with just 12.

I knew something was coming back when I posted that diatribe against Harper and Keighran!!!

On a serious and academic note there are two schools of thought Dixpat

1) You win and lose as a team
2) You are only as strong as your weakest link

Number 1 holds 80% of the time. Number 2 holds if one player is the cause of three or four tries.

In my humble opinion.

My supposition is that had Keighran not spotted Manly to a 20 point lead that they would not have got a roll on and the game would have been close.

You are right. As mentioned it is a pet peeve of mine. Had his bad game been in a regular season match I would not have blinked an eyelid.

Which NHL team do you support? I havn't followed for years, but used to follow the Canucks.
