Yes they did, that is no secret. However the main reason for the name change was because it was owned by the NZRL, for a while. It was no big deal, but it was a big fuckup, as we all know.

The point that your ignoring is that the Auckland Warriors ceased to exist and the franchise was taken by the New Zealand Warriors. No legacy to the original club should exist. The Auckland Rugby League purchased the still operational New Zealand Warriors franchise. The have not shut it down and begun as a new franchise. It is still the same team. The team colours should reflect that legacy.

This is in no way a request for a drawn out discussion on Carlaw Park or Eric Watson. Its just my point that even though the ARL have taken control, they should respect the legacy built up over 20 years, and not return everything to how it was under the failed franchise that only lasted 5 years.

DB Bitter didnt stuff the club. Thats a massive stretch even for you.

You keep repeating "it wasnt a big deal". Completely irrelevant whether it was big or small. The decision was made, the new club began, continued and is still here today. The old club died. It is worth revisiting occasionally in tribute of New Zealands time in the NRL game, and the history of a team in New Zealand, but thats all. I supported them when they existed, i grieved their loss, and i fell for the new club on the block, and want to see it remain as it is now, for all of us.

I'd be against the name going back to Auckland but I'm all for the old colors- they looked good I reckon plus I've never been a big fan of the black- that should be an honor reserved for those pulling on the kiwi jumper.

I would agree about the black if it was the sole colour, or just black and white. But im happy with black, white and red as the club colours, or id be happy to return to black and silver/grey.

Not a fan of the green either. 4 colours is just too busy IMO.
It’s hard to know if the jersey colours are changing, this is a 25th season jersey or we are playing in Auckland Warriors colours at home and NZ Warriors colours away (as has been suggested). I think it’s the latter as the Warriors logo is black and not green

Thats completely incorrect. If you check back, the Auckland Warriors went bust. The franchise was given or sold to the New Zealand Warriors. It was not a rename of a failing business. The franchise was shut down and taken by another business.

In effect, there is as little connection as there was with the Titans and the previous Sea Gulls, Chargers, Giants, or Gladiators.

Except half the name, the moko, some of the playing roster and admin that carried on, the home ground......and most of the fan base.....

But yes - apart from that they’re COMPLETELY unrelated LOL...

The same could be said for all the clubs that combined, too. But apart from the name Illawarra mixed in, there is not much left of the Steelers. The Northern Eagles are a part of Manly's history but wont be remembered by the club.

It was logical to keep the word Warriors in the name. It keeps the loyal fans without any risk. The moko was changed from the original Auckland colours immediately. Playing roster and staff is a pointless statement, as even if they change name and location, many of those people would have joined. It was there job, and there are limited opportunities within the game. Home ground? Should they have moved to one of the endless options in the neighbourhood? And as you said, fan base. The very reason the things you point out were kept similar/the same.

Even if you buy a failed business, often there are very good reasons for keeping some of the history of it. It doesnt stop it being a different business.

If they get the designs right this could be an expensive season. New jersey, possibly an away jersey as I've always wanted a set.

Plus I'm usually big on getting the training gear & players polos.

Part of the agreement to close the Auckland Warriors down was that the creditors and players owed money would only accept part of what they were owed and that if, in the future, they changed the name back to the Auckland Warriors, the owners are supposed to pay back the balance owed - at least, that was what I heard when the name and the company which owned the team changed from the Auckland Warriors to the NZ Warriors.

From what I've heard, part of the reason the Fali bid fell over was because they were seeking assures, which were never provided, as to their exposure to this debt if they purchased the club.

Everyone says they need to make it Auckland Warriors again to have another club. Thats not necessarily true. The Roosters are now the Sydney Roosters, even though they arent the only team in Sydney. They dropped Eastern Suburbs from their name. Probably for the same reason the Warriors dropped Auckland. To escape the specific demographic and lure in other fans.

There is no reason they couldnt hold the name. They are generally known as the Vodafone Warriors anyway.

There is the potential even to have 2 teams named Canterbury in the comp, if Christchurch got a bid involved and wanted a more encompassing name than Christchurch

The New Zealand is only used for Australian purposes anyway. The NRL dont want Vodafone said too often. It took a bit of convincing to allow Vodafone NZ to sponsor the Warriors as it was seen as advertising one of Telstras main competitors (Vodafone Australia obviously).

Honestly, the green is as much a part of the Warriors old school identity as anything to me. It would feel strange 'reverting' but leaving the green out. Yeah, I know it reminds a lot of the old heads of the original sponsors and whatever, but for me I just think 'classic warriors' more than anything.

Excited to see what the designs look like. I hope it's got a chevron and we don't get some stupid ass new school design with the old colours, which would defeat the entire purpose.
