High-performing young players will have an opportunity to trial for the Vodafone Warriors’ 2018 under-20 and development squads next month.
The club has today confirmed its well-established open trial weekend has been set down for October 14 and 15.
With the National Youth Competition ending this year after its 10th and final season, the Vodafone Junior Warriors are now set to be involved in the new Intrust Super Premiership NSW under-20s which will run in conjunction with ISP first-grade competition next year.
The Vodafone Warriors’ open trial programme will run along similar lines to the event staged last October. It will start with a first trial day at Cornwall Park on Saturday, October 14th and will be followed by a closed training day on Sunday, October 15 (venue to be confirmed).
“We’ve recruited a number of top players from around the country to join the already talented young players coming through our system to build a strong under-20 squad next year.
“At the same time, we are maintaining our under-20 and development trial programme as it provides another avenue for players to put their hand up for further opportunities.”
Iro said the Vodafone Warriors are primarily interested in elite rugby league and rugby union players born in the years 1999 (under-19), 2000 (under-18) and 2001 (under-17).
“We want as many young players as possible to register but, due to the quality and huge interest we attract for our trial, we can approve only so many players to trial,” he said.
For day two, players identified from the trial games at Cornwall Park will join others selected by Vodafone Warriors recruitment staff to form a high-quality closed training and trial day.
“With the end of the NYC competition we have a number of players who have expressed interest in returning back from Australia so we will plan to have many of these experienced players trial on day two,” said Iro.
“We have also been tracking a number of quality rugby league and rugby union players so, if they register, many will get invited straight through to the second day.”
Registrations of interest for the October 14 trial close on Monday, October 2nd.
We will not be accepting any late registrations
Players who are invited to trial must bring their own shorts, socks, mouth guard and boots.
