It's pretty clear to me where we've gone wrong.
Kidwell's trying to implement a tough, grinding, structured game-plan; similar to that of the Melbourne Storm and similar to what Kearney is trying to instill at the Warriors atm. The problem is that this won't work for the Kiwis, ESPECIALLY against the Kangaroos. Structured footy is Aussies' bread and butter, they'll beat us at that game every day of the week.
What we need is Warrior Ball. Get the biggest, baddest forward pack we can find and have them run it straight up the guts. To compliment them we'd need quick play the balls, dummy half runs and most importantly, support runners that are ready for offloads. This will give us the momentum and second phase play we need in order to create try scoring opportunities and dominate the opposition.
I don't think our defense is too bad. The Kangaroos are always gonna be a strike team capable of scoring from anywhere. If we can improve what we're doing WITH the ball, it should take a lot of gas out of their tanks and make defending a whole lot easier.
On another note, some people are saying the players didn't front up... but i disagree. It looked to me as if they were all putting in 100% for their teammates and country last night. It seems to me as if they're a little unsure of what/how they're supposed to be playing.
Ultimately this is all on Kidwell's shoulders. If he's any kind of coach he'll figure out what's not working for him and adjust accordingly. If that happens I don't see any reason why we can't be competitive come World Cup time. However if he can't make those necessary changes, it'll mean he's not ready for the job and I think he'd have to step aside.
