General 2016 Wellington Sevens

Wellington Fun police fined me $250 on Friday! bought a beer from supermarket after work was drinking it on way home cops saw me pulled over and fined me, zero tolerance apparently... enjoy your nice sleepy town with no sevens tourists & none of there cash injection into Wellington economy. Greed with ticket prices & cost of food & drinks at stadium combined with fun police over regulation and 9's in Auckland killed the 7's dead once was a vibe to the event never was my thing it was a rah-rah muppet festival but bought $$$ into Welli... dead vibe now oh well, next

Ridiculous. Apparently they are breath testing fans before letting them into the stadium and turning people away. The stadium is empty and they are still turning people away.

The sevens was doomed from the day the 9s started, 25 percent+ of NZ lives in Auckland, why would they pay a fortune to travel to Wellington when they can stay in Auckland and go to practically the same event a week later

They will probably both fail in the long run, the great thing about the 7s was the costumes and packed stadium, I'm not sure the 9s has captured that same atmosphere

Great finals victory to New Zealand, South Africa had it until 2 mins after full-time when NZ scored and took the three peat.

Well done NZ made it hard on yourselves but winning ugly is better then not winning at all..

Three mistakes and three tries to them but way to stick to the task til the very end, well deserved tournament win.

SBW had a good tournament, bit of a learning curve he has to watch those offloads because if he's got no cover then the opposition will pounce.. just needs to learn the intricacies and get his timing down pat

Reiko and Akira Ioane them boys got game.. Akira would be a lethal back rower in league.

NZ's missing an out and out speedster like Waisake Naholo, Julian Savea or Milner-Skudder, plenty of power just lacking some x factor speed.

Tietjens on SBW

"Really pleased with Sonny," Tietjens said.

"He's never played the game [but] he's got some wonderful touches, he's massively fit, he's a real team man and he's disappointed in a couple of things that he did. But the good thing about Sonny is that he can put that behind him and just look to the next job and that's why he's so good.

"He's a perfectionist and he'll get it right."

Right down to the waking in the night to aid your recovery.

"He's amazing, he's infectious, the players idolise him, they follow him and, with everything he does, he's a real professional," said Tietjens.

"From my perspective he'll make it, no question there. He'll just get better and better. He's so disappointed in his performance, yet happy for the team having won, but as I said he's a perfectionist and he wants to get it right.

"And he'll get it right. No question there."

I am not a SBW fanboy but there is a good analogy between his professionalism and how the Warriors are evolving a similar environment through Groundsman Willie, sorry, Jim Doyle.

Well done to the All Black Sevens. I watched it all through and didn't turn off off early like Saturday night.

Most of them only went to watch one team and spent the rest of the time having fun. The fun Police arrived so now there is nobody to watch the rugby anyway.

Pretty sad for you but I remember it was the same for the 2011 RWC, I went on the walk from downtown to Eden Park got thirsty and went to buy a beer to drink along the way, got told if I did I would be fined.

about 10 years ago 7s were on waitangi weekend attended by 35,000, its also bob marleys birthday used to have "one love" concert at haitaitai park 10,000 people there every year(thats cancelled a few years ago)... some green party wowser mayor is trying to kill anyone having fun in Wellington unless it involves push bikes, gardening or IT... coolest little capital slogans looking dead! now council wants everyone to be a hipster who drinks 1 or 2 bacon, avacado and lime flavoured bullshit craft beers at an overpriced bar on courtney place which have all become identical bland copies of each other and wank on about how awesome wtgn is then goes home early on a Friday night!

As a league fan this is hard to say but i think union 7's is generally slightly better game than league 9's... but in 7's beside NZ team i never even heard of any other teams players except USA's Carlin Isles & whatching some douche dress up like austin powers for 15 years in a row aint my idea of fun! What League 9's does have in its favour is name recognition across all teams, womens 9's test series & this years ledgends goal kicking comp, 9's should add a few pacific nations, nz residents, maybe wigan from UK to help keep format interesting next year

A fact I find amazing, that douche makes a living charging a shit load to tell a couple of old jokes and playing some records.
