2016 Warriors Recruitment Strategy and Targets

RegBasicPlasticChessPieces.jpg

Mainly a thread for ideas about the Warriors recruitment or recruited players. Also a dumping ground for off topic posts from the Recruitment and Rumour thread that deserve to be discussed.

Opinions may include what positions the club need to recruit in, the type of player (professional, high work rate, etc), failings in the last recruitment office, establishing an office in Australia, why player X was not a good recruitment choice... the list is endless.

I like the idea of Jim Doyle bringing in an understudy.

A successor in other words, someone to mentor and take some of the pressure off Doyle in the short term (consensus seems to be that he is the best thing since sliced bread).

Future proof the club somewhat for when Doyle retires/ moves on.

The only playing position I've got doubts about is stand off, but they"re not cheap if you want a better one than what we have, they're not easy to sign either.

Who is to be the understudy? The guy has some unique skills which won't be easily replaced.

Indeed. A Jim clone wouldnt be realistic, unique skills aside, it would be good to have someone learn from him.

Are you saying having an ex taxi driver con his way into the top job was a mistake?
He was pretty experienced at club management before he started driving the taxi.;)...and he wasn't driving for long was he?:)
Ex-sports stars won't cut it at the top, we need business people running the business and sports people coaching the team.
Lets's start a rumour that Steve Price is coming back;)...he was a sports star and is now a university educated businessman running a business;)

Steve Price is a likely exception - he is an ex-sports player but has an MBA and is running a business currently.

Cleary being seen in the Mount probably just means he is over visiting friends and/or family. We had a family reunion in Noosa, one brother lives there but it was just as cheap to go over there.

If there is something to this, a good fit IMO would be for Cleary to set up and run a Sydney Warriors office. I can't think of anyone better qualified to do it. He will want to coach again, and fair enough, but he has this year to set it up under JD's oversight.

id prefer a masterbuilder to build my home more than an apprentice
Ahh ..... you haven't seen the 'workmanship' from some of the masterbuilders that I've had to deal with!! Of all the builders I know, there's only three that I would have quote on any jobs for me - and only one that I'd have work on any renovations.

Running the Waipu grocery store is a bit different to the Warriors, mind you Scurrah was running North Harbour Stadium before he took over the Warriors.
JD on the other hand was the business manager behind Navman. It started out in a Peter Maire's garage and JD helped turn it into an international company with over 300 local staff. I think it sold for over $100 million. Maire was the technical brains, JD was the business brains.
So although Steve's grocery store is just the stepping stone to a large New World or PakNSave somewhere I hope as a Warriors fan that JD doesn't go anywhere soon, and if he can turn the Warriors from worth $6 million into $100 million that would be fine as well.

Lousi won't be going anywhere, especially while injured.

Allwood maybe, but I don't think the Knights are that desperate.
Sione Lousi is staying put this season but he'll likely be the first to go for 2017. He either goes elsewhere or takes a huge pay cut and drop from an NRL contract to the 2nd tier...

I have asked before...who signed him?
Cappy and Cappy alone...

Bell I assume, Scurrah was still here at the time wasn't he? Hell if I know, not sure why it matters.
I asked because he came from Canberra and Cappy had coached him there...I assumed he was a Cappy buy...on a three year contract...but I don't know for sure.

I repeat.

Cappy and Cappy alone signed Matt Allwood. His first signing as Head Coach...
