General 2016 Warriors Offseason/Preseason Thread

So what's the deal with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck & Mannering playing this All Stars match?

Frizell out
Thurston out
Maranta out

Same as the other All Stars games.. players conveniently pulling out through 'injury' again *yawn excuses*.

Risking two of our big game players because of another mockery concept.

Good stuff NRL, not.

Yeah fuck that game.
Didn't Mannering miss the kiwi tour coz he needed a rest? Now he's gonna play an exhibition?
We're kiwis any way- I couldn't give a shit who wins but tell ya what- I'll blow up like a secondhand lawnmower if one of them get injured.

Finally tracked down a pic of James Gavet training...

I see what I can find out about Tuimoala Lolohea and where he has been training.

Wouldnt be surprised to see Jeff Robson start Round 1. Thomas Leuluai is still on light training. 'Straight running training' is what I was told. Not allowed much lateral movement. Even with a trial game or two he would surely be undercooked to start a regular game. Surely???

Obviously to be taken with your preferred amount of salt, but Rugby League Week see Thomas as an interchange player with Jeff at Five Eighth in their "Top 17" list for the Warriors. I presume they're seeing Thomas as relief for Isaac rather than Jeff but at any rate, they don't see him in any Starting Warriors XIII anytime this season.

Incidentally, they give our Recruitment as A+ and give the Tigers an F...

I think one of the Warriors is by public vote, so hopefully everyone goes "oh, shit can't be bothered for those Warriors, they were all crap in 2015!" I've got no problem with the All Stars game myself, actually if it was a case of "dump the 9s or dump the All Stars", I'd dump the 9s.

If Roger Tuivasa-Sheck got seriously injured I'd say this forum and a whole lot of league fans throughout NZ would get pretty feral about it.

Same with Mannering but not as much as Roger Tuivasa-Sheck when he hasn't even donned our club colours yet.

Unnecessary risk if you ask me

Public vote?! More like Bennett chooses whoever he felt like it vote.

If it came down to the Nines or All Stars I'd dump the All Stars. Nines is farkin awesome.

.

Yeah, it used to be a public vote but then they changed it and just allowed Bennett to pick who he wanted.

That's why the Broncos pick was superstar Lachlan Maranta.

Any aussie prick who tries to chicken arm Roger Tuivasa-Sheck or twist his ankles in a tackle needs to get a Konrad Hurrell knee to the jaw.

Mannering shouldnt bother making his 40 tackles either. Just stand around and let them through, why should he care ?

So true, we're getting articles written about pulling our best out of the nines, but it's ok to play what is truly a bullshit game, the nines allows combinations within the Warriors to gel, all the All Stars offers the Warriors is trouble.

I thought the kiwi captain was an automatic choice, hence mannering being selected, and then one pick from our club.

Great one! Mullets too, please.

Hey, remember the beard-growing in 2008? With predictions of a finals run this year, let's make a difference and have the whole team growing mullets. If they start now, by September they'll be cool as.
Bring back the club number system, was always great to see when a club was stricken with injuries and # 77 was playing on the wing. That's the fifth grade winger making his debut, probably wouldn't see too much pill I reckon.

Looking primed and ready, without any opposition in front of us we look like title winners. It looks and reads like we have our preparation on song. Do I have this feeling every year at this time ??? Probably. But, for the first time in a long while, my head is actually agreeing with my heart.

KONRAD LOOKS THE BEST I’VE SEEN HIM

‘KONRAD LOOKS THE BEST I’VE SEEN HIM’
Written by GREG PRICHARD, January 26, 2016

COACH Andrew McFadden has given up-and-down centre Konrad Hurrell top-grade marks for his efforts so far as the Warriors prepare for the coming season.

Hurrell is a powerhouse player at his best and can steamroll defenders as soon as look at them, but his form over the years has been inconsistent and fluctuations with his weight haven’t helped.

But McFadden says Hurrell, 24, is right on the money so far as the Warriors look to bounce back from a disappointing, 13th-placed finish last season.

“He’s obviously a freakish talent, but what all these young guys are learning is that you’ve got to have more than talent, you’ve got to have the right work ethic and the right attitude towards your profession,” McFadden says.

“We call it professional these days, but that’s loosely thrown around with some athletes, particularly in team sports. In individual sports, there’s nowhere to hide, but in a team sport athletes can hide and that’s what we have sort of acknowledged over the last few seasons and what we’re trying to really improve on.

“To Konrad’s credit, he has turned up in great shape this year and he certainly looks the best I’ve ever seen him.”

Hurrell, who was dropped last season, will battle it out with young guns Solomone Kata and Tuimoala Lolohea for starting spot in 2016.

Warriors prop Ben Matulino says Isaac Luke has laid down the plan for the front-rowers

Warriors prop Ben Matulino says new recruit Isaac Luke has laid down what he expects from his front rowers for the 2016 season.

Luke, who came straight to Warriors training the day he arrived into New Zealand, has set out what he wants from his props, the lines he wants them to run and the expected platform.

Matulino said that the former South Sydney rake, and his Kiwis team-mate, will add a new dimension to the Warriors play with his dummy half running.

"You can't rush him," he said of Luke. "It is the same game plan for everyone who comes up against him. He will hold the markers for us and set up some one on ones around the ruck. He gives us more options."

Matulino said the feeling in the camp has been very positive with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Luke adding a lot of energy and lifting the squad. Guys are training harder to impress them.

"All of the boys want to get to their level. As you can see Roger is doing extras after training and that is why he was Dally M Fullback of the year. He is always doing extras. Bully [Luke] is always putting the work in and is regarded as one of the best hookers in the world."

Matulino said that everyone at the club cannot wait for the season to begin.

Exactly what I thought would happen when I heard they'd signed.

The type of players that command respect and have the ability to lift those around them

'Guys are training harder to impress them'.. 'All of the boys want to get to their level'.. music to my ears.

Just those two players presence alone will make our boys act and be more professional.. this is not discounting the influence of guys like Robson, Ali & Ayshford as well. Experienced campaigners with great attitudes.

Some nice quotes in that article and a lot of positive signs. The recruitment of the two superstars seems to have had the desired effect so far. Now we just need the results on the field.
