First the good news: we don't have to play the Bunnies in Perth! Yay!

Now the bad news: we're scheduled to play Manly in Perth. WTF!?

Yes, I know, the ground will be full or close to, so heaps of money in it all round. But we always lose there, it's too big an ask, so why is playing there a good idea, Mr Doyle? It's sacrificing success for $$$.

Is it not a Manly home game?

Do we have any say at all in this fixture?

Plus remember, Manly have always had a traditional strong Kiwi following due to past players and the coach.....unlike Souths...so support won't be all one way this time.

Don't want to derail on expansion but I can

I agree with the unlikelihood of a second NZ team, but Perth has zero to do with it. The second Friday night time slot is designed for 6pm NSW time, not Perth time. If Perth play it'll be the unusual spectacle of a Friday night game played in blazing sunshine.

If anything the time slot may turn us into another Broncos with Friday night games galore.

Don't want to derail but the only way a 2nd team from New Zealand would work is if it was in Auckland either north shore or South Auckland based. They would both share either mt smart or Eden park. Anywhere else in Nz is not financially viable. But 2 Nz teams could make the time slot viable plus hosting games around the country like what dragons and storm did in napier would help fill that time slot as well

I like the idea of playing the Broncos and Storm in the first block.

The players like playing those clubs and have a good win loss record.

Hopefully that sequence gets us off to the good start, the shitty seasons start always hamstrings the Warriors for the year.

People often scratch their heads about how the Warriors beat Brissy and Melbourne at times when they are poor against easier sides.

It's Psychological, a confidence thing.

I'm hoping the combination of some early victories over those two favorite opponents of ours, mixed with winnable games Vs Wests and the Knights, is an opportunity to get an early roll on.

Confidence breeds confidence, with all these new players in the mix....hopefully our boys see themselves as a new team next year.

I like our draw, if I were to chose teams that we only play once, the Dragons would be at the top, the Eels are on the list, and Manly would be another.

So two out of three bogey sides played once, not too bad.

Bloody NRL releasing the draw at 5.00pm Friday, won’t someone think of the NZ office worker.

I like it for us, some tough teams at the start, some weak teams at the end, final home games in Auckland is a nice change.
Having 9 not interested in the warriors is a blessing, Thursday nights would be a killer for us.
And in general, I don’t need NRL on 5 nights a week, 3 days with 2 Friday, 3 Saturday, 3 Sunday, would be perfect. Having more than one (or 3 or 4) games on at that same time doesn’t seem to hurt the EPL, NFL, NBA etc.
Maybe they get better crowds if they’re spaced out.

Looking forward to:

• Dragons at home rd 9, surely this year, the hoodoo ends!
• Anzac day storm game, always a cracker
• Warriors don’t have to leave the country for over a month between rounds 8 and 14.

Not looking forward to:

• Perth, at least it’s after a bye, and they can stop over in Canberra on the way back. Even though they moan about being away from family for too long, it would be madness to fly to Perth, fly to Auckland, fly to Canberra in the space of a week.
• Rabbitohs then Cowboys (a) at the pointy end of the season, winning those could be difference between top four and a finals run or 8th and a quick exit, will be tough.

And the opener is a must win, the coach should pull out whatever tricks he has, no easing into the season, barring injury will see the two teams on paper and the warriors will be the MUCH stronger line up, crucial for the club to get off to a good start, then they’ll be fired to play the broncos and storm.

Loose and loose again in rd 2, tough opposition to break down in rd 3 (storm start each year strong) and its pressure… get a gimme in rd 4 then roosters, sea eagles, teams we’ve struggled with… mcfadden may not want Doyle judging him by rd 6.

Have faith in the collection of players, and mcfadden is okay when he has a full deck to work with, but everyone is dying for the warriors to get a good start, only at Mt Smart 3 times in the first 8.. get a decent start to the year, then the warriors road show goes Auckland, Christchurch, New Plymouth, all winnable, big crowds if the team is hot and we could be nicely placed before origin time.

That means in first month of season (including preseason games) NZ Warriors will have played in Auckland, Whangarei, Nelson, Sydney, Brisbane and Central Coast. Holy shitfuck is that serious lot of travel ! It's like they want Cappy to lose his job ...

Not surprised about us not being on Channel 9 very often. The past 10 years shows which teams they prefer to play.

A couple of our games / days would have been good candidates for a Channel 9 game. I haven't looked at what games are on Channel 9 for those rounds but rounds 3 and 5 against the Storm and Roosters would have been good candidates. The Storm game in particular as often our games against them are some of the best of the season. Oh well like a support act rocking the house down at a concert before the main act. We can just put on a great show and give them a "good luck following that one".

After our recruitment you would think we might have got a bit more interest, or is two games more interest.

Let's just get our shit together win and when we can make the semi finals and Ray Warren doesn't know the majority of our sides names we can listen to a set of 6 like the following.

True that but it is even more so with the likes of the Raiders, Titans and Warriors. It sounds even worse when he admits he hasn't seen much of a specific player and the only reason that is the case is they aren't on his Channel even though that side is in the top 8 that year or challenging for the top 4.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of our potentially big games are not looked at by Channel 9 because the great Ray Warren doesn't like flying.


My guess on the Roosters wanting to move our game to the Central Coast instead of playing the Knights there might be due to the Knights would most likely have more support there. Although that would mean a bigger crowd I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't want it to feel like a Knights home game.

I assumed it was more of a case of the Roosters "pulling a Rabbitohs" and screwing us with extra travel

It will be intriguing to see the Rd 21-26 scheduling when it comes out if the Warriors are Top 4 or thereabouts when the scheduling decisions are made.

Still hankering for a Saturday 3pm home game. See that as an opportunity ignored by the NRL (since it seems no NZ based Super Rugby ever gets played then, okay the ITM Cup does do that but I don't think that'd have a negative impact on our crowd if there was a Warriors v Auckland time clash)

Because it doesn't suit TV. The NRL makes money from TV not attendances although they need attendances to look good for appearances against AFL.

And I guess in Aussie it's too pre-barbie, isn't it? 1PM Aussie time, probably just waking up from the night before, XXXX for breakfast and maybe some XXXX beer as well...And AFL, well, in AFL heartland - ie Melbourne - AFL fans refer to football as "wogball", so that shows you the level of intelligence of some of those that frequent AFL games.

Mate I lived in Sydney in the late '70's early '80's and that's the only way soccer was described, and generally they all drove "wog chariots", as all Valiants were called. Obviously there are still plenty of red necks alive and well in the sunny Straya.
