Internationals 2016 State of Origin Game 1

Bro you just described the whole modern game, Origin is an upgrade on what we see every week.

Really this is just a personal choice for yourself and how you relate to it emotionally.

You can't tell me the quality of the Anzac test was anywhere near it.

Absolutely spot on.

The international game is growing which is great, but right now Origin is still almost guaranteed the best league games of the calendar year as far as I am concerned.

Last night was amazing, Queensland was tired as all fuck, the players were shattered as shit, and still defended fucking exceptionally with NSW moving the ball around and knocking on the door with far too much energy than my feeble heart could handle.

yea Origin isn't what it was, because league isn't what it was.

Players used to hit hard and legal, because if you did something illegal or grubby someone would hit you in the face, you do a late hit on a playmaker, someone like Gallen hit you in the face, you had to hurt players without pushing the boundaries to upset the enforcers.
It was a cleaner harder game, now players do grubby shit to try and coax a player into fucking up or taking a swing. They milk penalties to get meters because just playing the sport isn't how they play now, as much as I love football I hate that this cancerous tactic has moved to league (Lyon doing his superman impression anyone?).

Origin can only be the best of the NRL because the NRL keeps fucking up the rule changes, and reffing is inconsistent as fuck so players don't know what they will or wont be pulled up for.

I'd love for Origin to be what it was, but it wont be, so Ill just have to love it for what it is, still my favorite sporting games of the year, even if another broncs cowboys final would trounce last nights game it was still exciting as hell to watch, especially the game sitting on a knife edge like that the whole time.

If it was given 50% of the time and effort that the game gives origin it would be.

Full strength kiwis vs full strength kangaroos with a proper build up would be better than the meh-fest we got last night

I agree it can be but sadly Internationals aren't up to the same standard that often and IMO that is all on Kearney's agendas, winning should be first and foremost above development and culture.

We are now the 3rd best team in the World playing like the 4th best team, we have had the personnel but due to idiocy they don't get selected.

Exactly, they have sterilised and slowed the game down yet many will tell you it's faster and they score more points.
The amount of sets on goalines that were defended was impressive, Blues in particular had more than enough opportunities to score but stout defence kept them at bay, Laurie is an embarrassment on the game now and him an old mate Mcrappy should be assistants only.

the biggest issue facing the Anzac test is the fact they have a 3 day prep whereas Origin is given 10 days

Nah thats just an excuse Kearney rolls out, they have the same build up, fuck the excuses, Not selecting in form players in their actual positions is what makes them losers.

I didn't realize how bad it was until Sky did the Warriors 20th anniversary pop up channel. The "stop start" play of old was so bloody quick and the games flowed so much better, when someone was tackled it was in play so much faster than the norm now. The tackle and play of the ball happened quicker in the last 10 minutes than the the first 10 these days. It's insane that the NRL thinks that for some reason the slowed down, grubby dirty tackles now are better than old.

Maybe it's because we are older and we can't relate too of the modern day player.and we don't have invested interest in these teams now and maybe we are overloaded with league, and there's no characters give me smoking and drinking after a bash up. instead we have Gatorade drinking tattooed gooses

I think we are making different points.

My point is that Origin is only better than Test football because it is given preferential status and value.

You give the same advantages to Test footy and it would be better than the shitfest we saw last night.

You mean like the last World Cup?

Not with the squads Kearney, Halligan and Barnett are selecting, no chance the Ozzies would only get better too.

If they moved Origin to standalone weekends (which won't happen), we could have Kiwis vs GB test matches at the same time and check that theory :)

how fucking great would a standalone weekend with Origin and a couple of tests be?

Samoa Vs Tonga, NZ vs GB, QLD vs NSW. THAT would be a super Saturday.

Seems to be a bigger push than ever to have stand alone weekends.
Thought I heard they were talking about having one standalone Origin weekend next year with a possible Kiwi v Samoa test on as well.
Anyone else hear that?

Do you mean Klemmer raising the knee at Morgan?
If so I dont think the knee hit the head which would be why it's not being looked at 3 ways form Sunday.

I had heard they wanted to do one stand alone match but didn't know they were going to squeeze in a Kiwi test too, good stuff if it happens.
