Internationals 2016 Australia v Kiwis Test, Perth

Positives to take from the match -
Well we always lose these one off tests.
It can't get any worse that.
At least we didn't pick up any injuries.
Half the team haven't played in six weeks, they'll be better for the run.
And that's about all I've got.

I may even be worth moving Leuluai into the 9, bringing Luke off the bench and putting Martin out in the 6 to give us another kicker in general play...

While Leuluai was great on d we are really lacking option kickers and Brown's service from dummy half was clean but slow.

maybe

6. Martin
9. Leuluai
14. Luke

Our much vaunted forward pack went missing at the start of the first half. The traditional softening up period the Australians owned us. Our forwards barely got the ball as the backs were doing the bulk of the work and a forward would get a hit up late in the set. The injection of Tapau and Blair helped turn things around.

Bromwhich had a pretty poor game; he got a lot of attention from the Aussies. He should improve from here. JWH was in exile for a few years, it will be interesting to see his stats. Again hopefully he improves in the Four Nations.

The way we worked the try. But barely any field position to repeat that.

The Aussies just worked us over moved us around and went through their players. Our right side needs some work defensively.

JWH - Kearney wasnt picking this knob for a reason, biggest powder puff in the game
Johnson - Pathetic
SKD - Mud
Nightgale - my 92 yr old gran runs with more venom

Well done Kata, played great, Haka was good, that about sums up that dreadful outing from the Kiwis

I think Luke was an issue, his passing is slow and inaccurate, we looked our best when Lewis came on for last 20 min of first half, I'm not sure what Luke gives us

Good for a haka or two but that's about it.

This I posted earlier in the thread, Brown is not a hooker. If you're not gonna play Luke for the full 80, then have Leuluai replace him as hooker either from the bench or have Te Maire Martin come of the bench and play 6 and have Leuluai move into hoooker.

I recall some people on this forum actually thinking JWH would be great for us.

fucking dreamers.

positives:

The Haka. Nobody does it like Issac. Nobody.

Negatives:

pretty much everything else. We did work our way into a position to win. But, when you do that against Aussie, you have to strike, not sit back. The coach has to take some blame for that, waiting too long to make key interchanges. To the point where the commentary team were mocking him. Not an encouraging start from Kidwell. I know it is one game, but it would appear he does not have the smarts for this role.

Some real problems with the last tackle options.

But to be fair, the player taking the 5th tackle was real slow on a couple of occasions, getting up and playing the ball... WTF? Where's the urgency.

The whole game looked off except for the 20 before half time.

I would start Leuluai.

Strong defender and better runner in Luke off the bench.

But hey, what do we know?

Did Taupau play any minutes in the second half? He was the Kiwis best forward. Kidwell needs to rotate his forwards better.
