Gatis originally played for the Wests Panthers, Brisbane team in the Queensland Cup before joining the Cowboys in Townsville.
He would play 24 games in 3 seasons but a broken arm followed by a knee reconstruction would have Gatis out of the game for several years.
When the New Zealand Warriors visited Townsville in 2005, assistant coach Kevin Campion offered Gatis a chance to come and spend the pre-season with the Warriors.
Gatis accepted the offer and, in 2006, he was signed by the New Zealand Warriors. He played in thirty nine games for the club over two seasons.
After being released by the Warriors, Gatis signed a two year contract in 2007 with Huddersfield but after only 3 months he left citing personal reasons.
He would spend 2008 back at the Cowboys and play mostly reserve grade but he did manage one game for them.
