Proof will be in the pudding today, if Volk is named on the extended bench there's still a world of doubt around SJ. No Volk, SJ is a certainty for Saturday. Sweating on not seeing Volk listed, would also be such a shame for him to sit out their qualifier and forgo a chance at Cup glory next week.
To be fair, the club knew SJ was unlikely to play against Panthers and didn't name Volkman. Unfortunately I don't think it'll be that clear cut, could be another long week of good oil.

It's a clash of a hot forward pack against a hot backline. I expect us to come home strong with fresher legs, superior fitness and the home crowd. I can see us scoring through the middle.

Based on the weekend we need all kicking to pepper Marzhew.

I trust Webby but really hope Siro and Lussick are competing for one spot

I'm hoping that our "second chance factor" last game was indicative of who played. Watching the Cup lads stroll past the Low Fat Milk made me question if they even needed the Volk, we may as well have applied for dispensation and included him after all.....hindsight is a cruel mistress.

Off topic

Bro, when did you get that awesome Warriors tattoo on your neck??

I swear to god, the day we win a premiership I am getting a Warriors tattoo ❤️

With Volkman is seems obvious that this is about player welfare.

Webster does not think he is ready and the rushing him into these games may or may not work, but the risk to Volkmans development as an emerging talent is too high.

To say we are not trying to win due to selections is an over reach.

I think people are forgetting that Ivan Cleary ignored the fact that a young SJ was carving up Reggies and held him out for ages until (as Stacey Jones confirmed in an interview) the special tackling program they had him on worked and they saw he was NRL ready.

It is funny to read all the fans who are questioning Webster now because he is not doing what they think he should.

Why is it the coach is always wrong with selection when we lose games? . I don't like Ford, but I start from a place that says Webster knows what I do not know end of story.

Here is the thing, I love reading peoples opinions especially those that offer something different (that is the function of a forum) but people say Webster is making insane calls, or not the coach of the year calls, or making his first mistakes because their opinion differs from the outside on a couch???

Come on.
Not taking a noted kicker into two NRL finals matches in a row would he insanity.

I am willing to die on that hill until proven otherwise if we run out with that halves pairing on Saturday. If I end up with egg on my face then so be it, happy to be proven wrong as it means we've beaten Newcastle.

If you rush a calf it is gonna blow.

It is not the type of injury that gets better by pushing it.

It is exactly the type of stress injury that gets blown out by putting a 91 kg weight of a human body on top of it while at sprint Newtons laws increase the force up to six to eight times the load being propelled.

The problem is this is not an injury that produces primarily pain (which can be dulled) it is an injury that also has direct impact on function.

If you push an injured calf muscle too soon, very quickly the muscle will no longer function, you won't be able to run and or even walk.

Fortunately I do not have to worry about any of this, the medicos are in the hot seat and SJs feedback.

But you cannot assume that he will play just because a week has passed and he gets a needle, and it is 'mostly better'.

This is why the club saying he will be available for this week was ridiculous.

If it is not 100% then don't play him. Don't even risk having no SJ do a Captains run. Wait man, wait till he is symptom free then start loading it.

I do not agree with losing our nerve and changing for the sake of a few extra kilos per hit up.
Yeah we are being a bit Knee jerk in our assessment.

Webster hasn't done anything too far out of the box. He will assess the players the game and work out what is best.

Egan has been in the wars a lot so Lussick has been a necessary evil. Bench call depends I guess on what Webby wants from dummy.

If it's good service from dummy Lussick is your guy. I rate his pass better than Egans.

If service isn't then we work on some crafty Bench playerswith real upside

Hopefully he doesn’t, he is the definition of “mid”

mid...dle of human and god?

Yes, he is a demigod, and demigods should not play on the bench, so I agree lol

Those who think Webster was holding back RV so he could play in the NSW cup are drawing a long bow. I don't see a first grade coach holding back his best team just so the reserves could win. I think he made the decision that RV wasn't ready so went with Walker

So do the maths.

No one is disputing that a field kicker is critical. Your insistence must therefore tell you that there is more at play.

Unless you think Webster has lost the plot. That is the implication.

I think I will take the club doctors opinion on it

I think Webby went for experience. Simple as that.

TMM and Walker have played in GF's, coming in to a big finals game against the top team, he wanted a halves pairing that wouldn't be over awed.

Being at home this week, I think more likely RV will play if SJ can't. But who knows maybe Webby values experience more than kicking 🤷

I think Volkman followed instructions v the Dolphins too rigidly because there were times he could have added variety and ran a bit or got onto the same side of the field as TMM. Overall apart from some missed tackles (and there were plenty shared around) he went alright.
Last week the coach left him in reserve grade where he got a taste of sudden death football as a prelude to this week at home should he be needed.
Surely he is on the extended bench.
I mean what if TMM is crook.

Put it this way. If Webster selects the same team that lost to the Panthers and we do win against the Knights then we'd all be happy and praise the team and coach. But if we do lose then we'd would be berating Webster and his selections and the team.

It's hard to know, obviously running with the next best option would always be the intention but seeing as it wasn't the last dance for us could've been the only reason Webby didn't apply for dispensation for Volk to play, that is unless Webby truly thought running with TMM and Walker was the genuine better option. If that is/was the case, it's not the best scenario for Volk seeing as everyone's been led to believe he's our first up number 7 replacement for SJ.

Don't think he's lost the plot, but all coaches make mistakes.

The halves pairing, bench make up, and use of the bench on the weekend say as much.

He's not free from criticism just because we made the top four.
