NRL NRL Round 6, 2024 Discussion

Do you think that they may voluntarily or involuntarily slow the game down?

Might explain why we get such a difference in interpretations between games. Ability to keep up and not just physically?
I think it boils down to different teams defending/attacking slightly differently. Then each ref having their own style of reffing of sorts.

It's only subtle differences for both teams and refs. But sometimes those subtleties clash against eachother making it look much worse.

The above is a guess though, i've honestly never put too much thought into the reffing side of things other than that's a bloody hard job for anyone.

Never actually considered this, the ref managing the game so they can keep up with it. Must be a huge challenge for them to adapt to the speed now too, might not be unconscious bias we're seeing after all, it's being too fast bias.
Ref what do you do when you can't keep up with the game, slow it down?

I am always fit so it’s not an issue for me.

However refs that aren’t fit enough don’t play advantage when it’s clearly the right option.

Or let the defence stay on for too long in a tackle to get their breath back.

Then the push and shove starts which is totally the referees fault.

Or just referee from a distance in which case you are too far from the point of contact and miss everything including 50/50 tries.

The fastest grades in NZ are 15s to 17s especially at rep level.

I ref like it’s NRL.
Tidy rucks, no flops, no second efforts once the ball carrier is held.

As for the potential 20 extra penalties that Mrs Badger could have given.
I bet 95% of them would not have been given by any ref because they were inconsequential.

Good thing for her given her profile she married Mr Badger and not Mr Beaver.

Lucky she didn't marry Steve Menzies then
