Social A Weighty Issue

Had about three to four weeks where didn't lose anything and then it just started going again. Lost 28.4 kg since the beginning of August.

Last went to the doctor in 2022 and BP was 160/70, now it's down to 142/84. Doing blood test next week when this cold has moved on. Be interesting to see what the weight loss has done to cholesterol, sugar and iron levels are.

Nice work! That's a huge amount of weight to lose. I'm sure it will have had an effect on those other areas you mention.

Wrighty Wrighty how you doing? Need any motivation, inspiration or a kick?

I'm starting to eat more and snack more. Not putting in weight but not losing any either.

I really need to get focused again. Some competition would be good!

Bit worried with winter coming up and I generally crave and out on weight in that period.

Basically been hovering around 100kg for the last 4-5weeks.

95kg goal seems like a bit of a stretch now. ,😕

Congrats but is it ok to lose so much weight in such a short period?

What’s your routine and diet??

Congrats again that’s a huge achievement- excuse the pun!

You gotta kill the sugar and those cravings go.

I was just at the supermarket and prided myself on not being tempted to buy ice cream, chips or chocolate. The craving just isn’t there these days… feels so bloody good!!

If anything I do treat myself to soda / sprite and bundabergs so maybe there’s where I get my sugar fill!!

Yeah, I have a serious sweet tooth. I've done well though. No chocolate, lollies, biscuits etc

I'm drinking a can of soda each day though. Rest is water basically.

Bread and potatoes have crept back in so might just need to reset again.

We have to get some sugars and starches for healthy balanced diet, moderation and getting the balance right is the struggle for most of us

Pretty much eliminated fats and most carbs. Around 250g of protein each day with the rest coming from fruit and vege. Trying to keep cal intake to between 1500 to 1800 per day.... I've developed a love/hate relationship with broccoli.... it loves me, I hate it!!!!. Every six weeks, have a "cheat weekend" where we eat mostly high fat food for two days in obscene amounts then two days regretting it with the first only eating apples and then add protein back in the second day and back to the normal plan after that.

Exercise is most walking but the breathlessness has gone, range has increased and speed has increased. Doing a lot of garden work... things like bending down has really improved as well as getting up after kneeling down. Wife says my breathing at night has improved from a freight train to a kitten purr.

My "end goal" isn't any set weight but is to fit back into some jeans I'd brought in Dallas ten years ago. On the weekend, I was trying on different jeans and put on one pair which could barely do up... probably another 5 - 8 kg till I could wear them. When I took them off, I realised they were the ones I'd purchased at Costco in Dallas. That was the moment I realised how far I'd come.

Considering she had been told that menopause, chemo and surgery had stuffed her body up and that she would never lose weight again, the fact my wife has lost over 30kg has really confused our GP and her breast doctor. Me, I couldn't be prouder of her. I know if it wasn't for her doing this with me, I wouldn't have stuck with it.

You guys are doing so well. Keep it going. I'm strictly a coeliac diet since Oct & have gone from 83kg to 77kg. Had a hospital checkup on Friday & my gluten marker has come down from 4837 to 153. The aim is under 50 apparently but I must be doing something right. Weight feels really light & the amount of sugar in gluten free food is much higher than I'm used to so trying to keep a happy medium between diabetes & coeliac is challenging. Certainly don't have as much energy these days but while we are still here letz make the best of it eh.

I know I come across paranoid sometimes but in general a lot of dr are stupid. As was pointed out to me, not a single drug ever introduced to combat a lifestyle disease, has ever reduced the instances of it. From heart meds, to blood thinners, diabetes meds etc.

Food, sleep, exercise is really the golden trio of health.

There should be more emphasis on this in terms of health. The "health system" the politicians call it should be renamed. Or it should include trying to improve the general health of the population.

Your health should be a day-to-day thing.

On the big pharma video. it is scary the amount of pills some Americans take. Got this issue, take a pill but that causes this issue, take a pill for that, but that clashes with the other one so take this one.

I used eat well for six weeks, have a weekend off then six weeks off and have a week off. This was about 20 years ago, before I met my wife and went off the rails. The weekends/weeks off was pretty much to branch out a bit and remove cravings. Maybe BK or Wendy's but not excessive.

Hopefully, the amount you eat on these weekends moves from the obscene amounts you describe to enough to get a fix or a change.

I hope you manage to get into the smaller jeans. I have some pants from when I was doing my 6/12 week blocks that I've kept to one side. Quite amazed I could fix those. At the moment I've lost quite a bit of weight that even the smallest jeans I wear to work I need to adjust the belt to a smaller notch as they feel like they will fall off.

But then I have this riddle. I've lost weight and haven't worn much of my dress clothes since covid and I am pretty sure most of them were on the higher side. Even the lower waist sizes should have been an issue 5-8 years ago now. I had a wedding to go to and tried them on expecting them to be too big. Some I couldn't fit. I have no idea how that worked out. My waist and lower back I am often there is less fat or anything to grab compared to in the past. All of my shorts/jeans etc are all smaller. But I ended up buying dress pants the same size as in the past.

I have a terrible sweet tooth as well. I try and treat sugar like alcohol. A treat that needs to be had in moderation. Mind you I've just upgraded the Playstation and that was one thing that sent me off the rails years ago. Eating crap while gaming. At least this one loads quicker so I don't sit around and get bored and head to the kitchen.

I've just started adding soda back into my diet. Started with Kombucha drinks and have now added normal sprite/coke etc. I stick with the no sugar variants, now with coke it is no sugar/no caffeine. I also only stick with the new smaller cans to help with portion control. When I am out and they have normal 355ml cans or even the larger ones it is quite weird. Especially the bigger ones, they had some at work a week or so back and I was about to treat myself but saw the sugar content. No thanks.

I was losing weight and then. all of a sudden, the track pants I'd been wearing weren't fitting yet I was still losing weight. Then my good lady pointed out it was because I'd been wearing them below the big gut and now had pulled them up to be over my waist. DOH!!!!

Sugar free drinks in moderation is a good fix, certainly doesn't taste the same or hit you like crack cocaine. But it's enough to trick your brain into thinking it has had something sweet/sugary as a treat.

Sugar free Red Bull - 10 cal
Normal Red Bull - 110 call - 27g sugar

They have other stuff in it, but if it keeps you on track with your dieting goals then it's a win. As far as i'm aware you'd have to be drinking cases of it for the other stuff to make any meaningful change to you.
