What a rollercoaster of emotions, had a mate over, so thought I'd watch the game on replay (extenuating circumstances, not often I miss a game live), went to the pub didn't look at the score while warriors are on. Panthers Melbourne game shows the score - feck. Watching first 20 minutes of warriors and thinking surely I misseen that surely 42 - 16.
Where the sharks really that good for 60 minutes? or ( sorry Aman 2.0 ) feck the refs (as i write this DWZ gets a penalty for pushing while attempting to ground the ball in the in goal.)

Edit: this post was 60 minutes in, ref didn't help but feck warriors panicked and rushed shite, Sharks played/hustled the game just right.
First game of the season. We'll be right.

Capewell over-rated/Injury prone
He dont have any other second rowers ready for 1st grade so stuck with them I suppose
Rts to fullback bring in Pompey maybe Ali
Tohu to the edge. Walker to lock.

It's only game one but hopefully next week I'm not saying "you don't win the premiership in week 2" or "it's only week 2, we'll figure it out."

Was at the game and the announcer was absolute crap, childish and embarrassing and the club will get an email from me and I invite others to do the same otherwise we will have to put up with it all season

I agree with Tragic above - penalty try all day and to hear the ref say he couldn’t be sure that DWZ would get the ball to ground was laughable. If no PT then at least a sinbin for professional foul yet ref says it wasn’t foul play.
Double down on this. I was at the game to. It was like an u8s mini ball final, “when I was up the, you say wahs. Up the..” silence. Cringe cringe spine tingle cringe, just not it. Leave it how it was. You don’t need to hype a 24000 crowd, they were already cranking. The fans feed off the game, not the new intern asking us to join in some generic chants. Who should I send an email to?

For those who don’t know, the hang up the phone gesture was made famous last year when Ben Shelton invented it after beating his fellow American in the US Open, he was defeated by Novak the next round, who loved the gesture so much that he did it after beating Shelton, in which the American commentator said it got “spicy” 🤣

If we want to become one of the most ruthless teams in the comp, we can’t let teams off the hook with silly errors or penalties etc.
We had them on the ropes in the first 40. We should’ve had a substantial led at halftime.
He’s had this in his game last year and today he made some knock ons that let the sharks off the hook.
I’m not blaming the loss on him but Webby should make an example of Ford and tell him to work on his handling in NSW Cup.

RTS needs to be playing fullback.

Taine isn’t a better fullback than Ali is centre.

RTS is also a better all round player than Taine, obviously. You want your best player at fullback to maximise their involvement.

Stronger all round team with Ali in for Taine.

My concern is RTS training and playing at FB and he gets injured like Marata carrying his centre weights

I don’t think there was much decoy running for the shape, maybe game 1 everyone is rusty and sticking to basics and our chance to knock out the opponent was done after 3x drop balls by the same player

Maybe having Egan off (injured?) then sub the props was a huge mistake when the errors were bringing momentum back to the sharks

Geez you can tell all the bandwagoners that jumped on board last year......their usually the loudest when things dont go to plan lol.

Disappointed but not too worried yet tbh. We we're far far far from our best yet were still just a converted try away from what wouldve been an undeserved win against a slick outfit.

Errors and penalties killed momentum - by and large in our control.
Unable to dominate the ruck in the middle with fast play the balls so when we did go wide we hadnt created numbers - somehow need AFB tp play 80 minutes, will also help once Niukore gets back, plus Charnze as some of the timing on our shifts we're off.

Welcome to the NRL folks, where if your even slightly off your game the team running last will cut u, let alone a good side like the Sharks. Dont ditch your season passes just yet.

Need to be better across the park tho, no two ways about it.
Bad news sells. Happens every sports forum:
Team win: Gameday Forum is a few pages, full of "Yeah, we got away with it today but, gee, that left edge defence/so-and-so's goalkeeping/whatever wasn't 100% ON will be exploited by such-and-such team next week!" posts
Team lose: Gameday Forum is a full-on doorstopper novel-like epic, full of claims the coach is a fraud, "everybody sucks except my favourite player"-type accusations and "can we just burn the place down now, please?!" posts

Curious about other sports forums as there are only a couple I use, are they similar to here?
where I've noticed post game it's grief/enjoyment plus a drunken rants including mine.
Following day is always good for analysis/re watch game thoughts.
By the end of the week usually the forum's identified and come up with solutions to fix the issues.

Our defence was on point - the Sharks were huge, physical and 16 points is acceptable.

We lost because our attack didn’t score enough points. Rusty early season combinations and the Sharks were physical and clinical. Last year, Webster got the defence sorted then we built the attack. Our attacking structure will get better.

One concern is our attack still revolves completely around SJ. When the going got tough Metcalf offered little. I feel RTS needs space to thrive and wonder if Metcalf is the right option to open that edge up (TMM fan here)

Also feel we need more X factor - we’re an old, experienced squad but lack raw speed and power (Niukore and Ali). I pray SJ holds up this season and worry for us once he retires

We’re gonna be fine, that game gave us a scare…..only 1 round in.

Think of it as our 3rd & last trial game. Clunky and the pace & intensity of first grade was apparent. Tough comp but we have the goods…..key players out etc. Webby has to make some adjustments and tough calls.

We didn’t get pumped. Sharks are a good side….especially defensively & they are big…..side note: Talakai is a beast aye, built like a bowling ball & runs/rolls like one, something about short stocky centres that are super dangerous.

But we’re a better side.

We could’ve leaked more points and we were close to scoring at least 2 more tries.

There’s plenty of upsides to look forward to.

I’ve still got plenty of hope, gave us a C but when things start clicking with a little luck going our way also we’re well within the running.

And don’t forget that first 20mins…..that’s not traditional Warriors so it’s promising.

Bring on Melbourne. Last night will be a distant memory.
