There's no reason for Shaun to be retiring just yet. Off his best season ever looking like a completely different player that is adapting to his loss of athletiscm. Also got through last year healthy.

I thought he was done a couple years ago, soon as he lost that speed and kept getting injured. Never been more wrong about a player.

It would take a major injury at the stage for retirement, but touch wood, he's very strong at the moment.

Cautiously optimistic, but Father Time is defeated, and he’s one injury away from falling off a cliff (touch wood it doesn’t happen)

I dunno man. He seems to realise that he has to look after himself.

We have seen a couple of times where either players have not passed to him on the fast break because they know he cannot hit the nos anymore, or in this years trial where he was given the ball and did not even bother trying to beat a forward on his shoulder and just took the tackle.

I do not see him blowing a gasket, he seems to be comfortable out there letting other people sprint while he concentrates on the core number seven skills, organizing, kicking, passing, tackling.

He is not gonna bust a nut yelling at guys and slipping short balls or cut outs, as an old guy he still has the strength and mass to fell the tall timber running at him, and he would not have that kicking injury from over use syndrome had we a second kicker, which it looks like Metcalf is gonna have a stab at.

If Metcalf steps up with the Kicking......

I could see Shaun going round at least one, and maybe even two more years.

I could see Shaun going round at least one, and maybe even two more years because he knows the no running anymore bit is what is gonna extend his shelf life...and ironically he knows that a Shaun Johnson who focuses on everything but running, is the best version of himself in this current NRL wasteland of very few decent strategic skill kicking sevens.
Think if he's 10m out and sees some space or a slow prop, he'll have a go. Few tries left in him I reckon.

That try v the Roosters almost cutting himself in half on the goal post to snatch the game was incredible. It’s etched in my memory forever.
I know this is an SJ thread, but I was at that game in Christchurch. We were nearly in line with the goal post Locke wrapped himself around... unreal and very courageous play - but shit that would have hurt like a mofo. You could see from the stands how far his body went around the post. Yikes! Don't think I'll be forgetting that anytime soon either.

Back to SJ - TWL did a 100 SJ highlights when he returned to the Warriors. Some of the links are broken now (YouTube videos having been removed, etc.), but definitely worth a look for a trip down memory lane!

Got a knot in my throat watching that. Smile from ear to ear! Glad he gets that respect from his peers.
