For sure, 2011 was a better team and better result. But we’re talking the season here? Not just results?

Edit

2023

Finished 4th. 16 wins. 8 losses.

Pretty much the same shit squad as 2022, when we fumbled our way to 15th. New coach, first year.

2011

2010 season we finished 5th.

2011. Finished 6th. 14 wins. 10 losses. Cleary was in this 2nd year with us….

i don’t recall 2011 giving so many highs throughout the year….

We got all off-season to debate this 😂
I guess if you weren't around then it's hard to compare.

2011 was amazing. Us beating the storm... this generation haven't experienced being the underdogs on the big stage and then winning.

Proctor being turned inside out by SJs dummy and brown scoring will live with me forever. Better than the Michael Witt, put it down son! Moment and that one was great.

Cooper Cronk still doesn't know where SJ went

i think it was better than 2011 but not as good as 2002, 2011 was just very weird, they would've have been booted week 1 of the finals these days. had the best highlights but lots of muddy ivan-ball as well. also scurrah and watson, unprofessionals like locke and packer and maybach mateo - it was a bit of a house of cards Ivan was holding together

I was around. Totally agree the finals was a great experience, but we’re talking season assessment.

What I remember of 2011 was people criticising Cleary ‘s selection decisions , especially playing second rowers out in the center. I remember there was a lot of discontent on how inu was utilised. Rocks and diamonds. Mateo as well. There was rumblings about Cleary’s “boring” unimaginative style of play. Jungle ball was our perceived strength and he benched the whole idea.

GF aside, 2011 was not a year where the fans, players, coach and club were on the same page. It was not until the finals, when we all came together as one. However by then it was too late. Plans were already in motion to replace Cleary and the rest is history ….

No, 2011 was far from impressive from what I remember…

You make some good points but I guess it's all personal in the end. This year didn't get me any of the warm fuzzies in the play offs like 2011 and I was at MSS against the Knights. Sometimes I guess it's all about the ending and 2011 gave more than 2023. 2023 was a season where we came home with a limp (even though they were all wins) and everyone saying how don't have what it takes and then got stomped by Panthers and then later Broncos.

According to this forum, we fans were also not happy with how the team was selected. If we are talking about the fairweather fans, I am not sure where they all came from to be honest and where this fervor is from either.

If I recall correctly, They gave Cleary a 2 year deal but he wanted more and they weren't willing to.

Its almost like we love supporting the underdog.
In 2015 I moved to the country and put of boredom I got into league.
SJ and the kiwis were my major draw.
The underdogs.
That's why I chose the warriors.
Plus my heritage / mum.
That's why I buy their shit and watch there games etc.
I'm not sure I'd like a Melbourne storm era of dominance... and I can't believe I'm saying that lol
But 2018 got me more excited for sone reason, knowing your going to win is cool. And being the panthers must be fun. But the unpredictable nature of the team hooks me.

There is something about supporting an underdog. It's like we feel like we are the underdogs in life and we hope somewhere sometime that we will also succeed.

Fuck this painful to read. The fact he wanted longer showed his commitment to this club. He was willing to call NZ home if we could provide him with the job security.

In the end, I guess it worked out for both parties. He’s now the coach of a dynasty club, with his son at the helm. He offered us Webster, who has given us a season to remember, and I’ll take that as a win for all

Cleary was a one dimensional coach in 2011.

It is not that people wanted Jungle ball, they wanted our team to look more like the better sides in the NRL like the one that beat us up in the GF.

Clearys backline had no moves, couldnt pass for shit and just kicked to Manu.

People were calling for Cleary to get the boot early 2011. A late season run and the emergence of highlight reel SJ gets 2011 remembered more fondly.
That’s were the shorter extension came from, higher ups were cautious if the late season was the exception or the rule based on how the start of the season went- it was probably the right call at the time, but not in hindsight.

2011 we were bog average for the majority. Outside the top 8 mid season. It was only late season we kicked into gear and finished 6th with a run to the GF.

There were many average years in between us and the dynasty- particularly his Tigers stint. Likely a situation where he needed to leave to shake up and evolve his coaching, staying here would have likely gotten stale and don’t forget the development systems he has at Penrith which he wouldn’t have with us

'02 is the best overall, minor prem, most consistent team that could do it all. I still believe they beat the chooks 8/10 times but alas, was not to be on the day.

'03 was power football. Probably better finals form than '02, imo. The emergence of guys like Toops, Webb, and Motu gave us a more dynamic attack. Best performance I've ever seen was the Bulldogs semi with Meli's 5 tries. Just pipped by eventual winners Penrith. The fear factor was real.

This season is 3rd best, for me. Very good 2nd half of the season, finals were just ok, overall. What I loved is the way they checked off some things that we traditionally struggle with, like travel, lack of real resilience, injury cover (most in the comp to top 30), short turnarounds, and poor officiating.

Webby has done a brilliant job with our inexperienced players. He clearly has a way of instilling his calm demeanour into the players.

Factor in the brilliant marketing job and gameday experience which brought the fans back and it's been a great season. Next year will be even better!

Agree but Cleary had built the foundations for success here after getting us to the GF. He literally had to start from scratch again taking over another basket case club in WT. So frustrating to see.

Everyone had bought in by the end of 2011 and it was completely torn down in a matter of months .. 6 rounds to be exact .,.
